Our Diocese Organizing committee would have been busy organizing our 2nd annual Diocese St. Sava Ball which was scheduled for February 6, 2021 at the Winona Vine Estates. Due to the ongoing situation it will have to be cancelled. God willing, we will be able to host it the following year.

The Priest’s Blessing. The clergy (that is, specially ordained people who celebrate the Divine Services) are our spiritual fathers. Bishops and priests sign us ...with the sign of the Cross. This is called a blessing. When the priest blesses us, he forms the Greek letters IC XC, that is, Jesus Christ, with the fingers of his hand. This means that through the priest our Lord Jesus Christ Himself blesses us. Therefore, we must receive the blessing of the clergy with reverence. When we hear in the church the words of blessing, "Peace unto all" and others, in reply to them we should bow without making the sign of the Cross. In order to receive a personal blessing from a bishop or a priest, we should place our hands in the form of a cross: the right hand on the left with the palms upward. When we have received the blessing we kiss the hand that blesses us we kiss, as it were, the invisible hand of Christ the Saviour Himself.

Congratulations to our brothers & sisters in Montenegro on the historic parliamentary election results. After almost 30 years the socialistic reign has come to ...an end. Through oppression of religion & speech, placing laws in action to confiscate historic Serbian Orthodox Christian churches & monestaries centuries old, the Serbian people have protected their culture, identity, and faith, and have overcome the evil in power through daily peaceful protests, prayers, and vigils with tens of thousands in attendance. God’s grace has annointed them through the struggles, for blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life. This is a prime example for those in power, remember you may be powerful today but time is more powerful than you. God always prevails in the end. Jovan Sinik See more

CHILDREN ARE THE SEEDS AND BEAUTY OF THE CHURCH In the Orthodox Church, we realize that no Christian can live a life of faith alone. We are a part of a... community - and not just a local community (although that is extremely important). Our community, our family, is all over the world and throughout time. See more

The Holy Gospel of Saint John 10:9-16 (for Saint Metrophanes) 9. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pastur...e. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. 12 But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.

Today is the Feast Day of the Holy Martyrs of Jasenovac. May we have their blessing. May we follow their example of putting Christ first and enduring to the end... Feast Day honoring all Serbian Saints. This frescoe icon is located at the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Hamilton Ontario on Barton St. which was painted by Fr. Theodore who was schooled at Jordanville Seminary.

On Sept. 4th the french actor Gerard Depardieu converted to Orthodoxy in Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris. The ceremony was held surrounded by the actor's re...latives - only about 30 people. On the same day, the actor became the godfather of the girl who was baptized in the same church. According to the actor, his spiritual father is the priest Tikhon Shevkunov. The reason for the decision was also "love for the Orthodox liturgy" and his "connection with the Orthodox clergy."

I was earlier this evening on Beach Rd at the old site of our original Church which was built in 1917. Behind me was our old Church Hall which backs onto Dofasc...o(steel mill). The parish was formed in 1913 and is the oldest parish in Ontario. I went there to reflect back on our rich history, to contemplate our future and to stand on the ground where St. Mardarije, St. Sebastian and St. Nikolaj Velimirovich prayed, stood and walked. Praying for another blessed 100 years for our future parishioners who are not even born yet. Lord have mercy on us. See more

In the narrow sense there are seven holy mysteries (sacraments) in Christianity, but one should not forget that prayer itself is also a mystery.

Holy Transfiguration Camp 18.07.2020

But what is the feeble excuse offered by many people? "I can pray at home," you say. You deceive yourself, O man. For while it is indeed possible to pray at hom...e, it is impossible to pray in the same way as in church, where there is such a multitude of Fathers, and where a cry is sent up to God with one accord. You will not be heard when entreating the Master by yourself, as you will when you do so with your brethren. For here there is something more, namely, unanimity, concord, the bond of love, and the prayers of the Priests. For on account of this the Priests preside, in order that the weaker prayers of the multitude, holding onto these more powerful ones, may together ascend to Heaven. Thought for the day ! For a small amount of perspective at this moment, imagine you were born in 1900. On your 14th birthday, World War I starts, and ends when ...you are 18. Later in the year, a Spanish Flu epidemic hits the planet and runs until your 20th birthday. On your 29th birthday, the Great Depression begins. Unemployment hits 25%, the World GDP drops 27%. That runs until you are 33. The country nearly collapses along with the world economy. When you turn 39, World War II starts. You aren’t even over the hill yet. And don’t try to catch your breath. On your 41st birthday, the United States is fully pulled into WWII until you are 45. At 50, the Korean War starts. At 55 the Vietnam War begins. When you are 62 the Cuban Missile Crisis threatens to end life on our planet as we know it. When you turn 75, the Vietnam War finally ends. Perspective is amazing. Yes, we are in a challenging time nowadays. Try to remember everything that those born in 1900 endured and accomplished, and have faith that we will endure as well. Let’s be smart, and help each other out - we will get through all of this. See more

For me, a true woman is a Christian woman who with all her strength can climb all the way to heaven. In the Church, women naturally become more attractive, more... beautiful because here their beauty is coupled with spiritual beauty, holiness, purity, humility and willingness to serve, more beautiful than a diamonds. 38th Annual Meeting of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada was held at Nash Rd in Hamilton.

Holy Transfiguration Camp 17.12.2019

The newly founded St. Sava Youth Fund hosted its first event on Saturday, February 1st at Winona Vine Estates. The St. Sava Ball, under the patronage of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada was the inaugural initiative of the vibrant group of young adults who make up the directors of this committee. The stunning property and banquet hall, owned by the Chetnik Organization in Hamilton, was host to over 400 guests who attended in support of the Holy Transfiguration Camp, hel...d at the Milton Monastery each summer for Serbian Orthodox youth from Southern Ontario. An abundant and delicious dinner, great music, and good cheer were the highlight of the evening, not to be preceded by the impressive premiere of a coreography by Stevan Sindjelic Folklor Group of Holy Trinity Church in Kitchener. The mood was set by a spontaneous Kraljevo Kolo, in which hundreds of guests, dressed in their best formal attire, showed that Serbs in Canada are loyal to their culture, Church, and youth. His Grace Rt. Rev Bishop Dr. Mitrofan opened the Ball with a blessing and greeting in which he recalled the reasons, all based on the words of Our Lord, for making our youth the paramount priority of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada. Invoking the blessings of God and St. Sava, His Grace thanked everyone for supporting this endeavour. The newly recruited directors of the Fund introduced themselves with humble gratitude to all who made the gathering possible. Rajko Djurdjevic, the Vice President of the Education Committee of the Diocese presented the challenges which the summer camp is facing because of mass interest in the programme. The goal of the current fundraising is to purchase portable classrooms for the camp to improve its infrastructure and increase productivity. Capping off the presentations His Grace Bishop Mitrofan, and Rajko Djurdjevic presented Bosko Bilic, Milorad Asanovic, and all of the directors, with Episcopal Certificates of Gratitude and an icon of St. Sava - a symbolic token of gratitude for the generosity and support from Winona Vine Estates and the Chetnik Organization. The evening has already been toked as a great success by the guests. The St. Sava Youth Fund directors are already busy with future plans. In the upcoming days look forward to seeing a transparent financial report for the public to view. Thank you to everyone that attended and supported the St. Sava Ball. Preparations are already underway for February 6, 2021. @stsavaball @winonavineestates Mary Cikic Aleksandra Orbovic Melissa Petrilli Jovan B Marjanac Rajko Djurdjevic Iliana Prostran Julie Mirkovic Vukasovic Mirko Tubic Lola Prstrn

I would like to take the time and explain our St. Sava Youth Fund. This committee has been formed this year to help raise money for our youth groups. Holy Tra...nsfiguration Children's Camp was formed two years ago. It is a children's camp that is held at Milton Monastery. This camp has been held on the first week in August for the past two years, however, with the interest growing we wanted to raise money and have the camp more equipped for the children. These types of camps have existed the Untied states for decades. In our travels to the United States most of us are in awe in strength and numbers of their Serbian communities within some U.S cities. This strength and numbers have come with much investment and hard work from our U.S Serbian brothers and sisters into preserving their roots from our homeland and continuing children enrichment. Most of our children have been born here in Canada and some are second generation and I cannot express how important it is to keep our children close to the Church, our heritage and our Serbian community. It is important we invest in this fundraiser as it is to build a future for our children, grandchildren and the future of many Serbian Canadian children to come. Being born in Canada, I myself have experienced th division, once a friend or a family marries out of our Serbian way. Let's provide and build a place for the gatherings of our children and grandchildren?, even if they don't marry in the Serbian community. We need everyones help to support our ball as we are supporting our many generations to come. In my opinion there isn't a more important function then this one. You may read this and say oh another money spender, however, it is an investment in your children futures. There will be a bus provided and the the seats are filling up quickly. Please let me know if you would like to reserve a spot. Also If you have a problem purchasing your ticket on line please feel free to call me and I will be able to help. I really hope to see as many familiar faces as possible. Serbian brother and sisters come out and join us in history in the making. Get your tickets TODAY!
