Beirut explosion: Video of church altar's survival brings hope. St Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church in Achrafieh is less than a kilometre away from where the Beirut explosion took place. Father Youil Nassif rushed to the church to check for damage, finding the nave completely ruined. But the sacred altar space, protected - including an oil lamp that had remained lit throughout the blast. ... Watch short clip video Glory be to God
Dear Community Members and Beloved Parishioners. There have been some changes in regards to the way services are now being conducted within our Church. The Church Community Council has been in consent communication and consultation with a vast number of individuals of our Community in reflection to further restrictions that have been recently applied to Churches by both our Local Municipal and Provincial Medical Officers and Public Health Unit. As a result, after several op...en discussions with Parishioners, the Church Community Council has decided to undertake the following actions until further changes. All services will take place outdoors under a tent with speakerphones (excluding the Priest, Chanter and Neokoro who will serve the Liturgy in the Holy Altar) and; there will not be the distribution of the Holy Eucharist or Andidoro to the faithful. The Church Community Council has taken these difficult steps to assure the safety and well-being of all individuals as well as the conformity of the Public Health Unit during this trying period and restrictions on our Church and Orthodox Liturgical Practices and Dogmatic Rites. We appreciate your support and understanding as these changes are only temporarily and hopefully non-existent by weeks end. We ask you to not resort in any slanderous discussions and accusations but rather to remain steadfast in love and prayer. If you have any feedback, comments and or concerns please do not hesitate to contact your Community Council Secretary, Chris Nicholas at Email: [email protected] Note: Church Services will continue as posted in August Schedule for Divine Service (previously posted on Facebook and Community Website).
Our thoughts and prayers to all those affected by the blast in Beirut, Lebanon yesterday. May we keep in our prayers today our dear Antiochian Orthodox Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Holy Panagia comfort them in their time of need.
Procession of the Holy Cross (August 1st) Because of the many diseases that occur in the month of August, the custom prevailed of old in Constantinople to carry the precious Wood of the Cross in procession throughout the city for its sanctification and its deliverance from illnesses. It was brought forth from the imperial treasury on the last day of July and placed upon the Holy Table of the Great Church of the Holy Wisdom; and beginning today, until the Dormition of the Theo...tokos, it was carried in procession throughout the city and was set forth for veneration before the people. Apolytikion of Proodos of the Holy Cross in the First Tone Lord, save Your people and bless Your inheritance, granting our rulers to prevail over adversaries, and protecting Your commonwealth by Your Cross. Kontakion of Proodos of the Holy Cross in the Fourth Tone Lifted up on the Cross by Your free will, Christ God, grant mercies to the new commonwealth that bears Your name. Gladden our faithful rulers by Your power, giving them victories over their adversaries. May Your alliance be for them a weapon for peace, an invincible standard. 2020 has been an unpredictable year full of challenges and uncertainty but yet at our church we continue to strive forward in completing our set goals with God's love, blessings and providence. Some of the projects that have been completed with the support and funding of our Parishioners, Benefactors as well as the Parrott Foundation so far include: New Metal Roof of our Church and Banquet Hall, New Air Conditioning Units and yes our Elevator is now fully completed, operational and certified as well as the Automatic Accessible Door. We are all currently working towards our next phase in the beautification of our Church.....this will all be reported at a later date. Once again, THANK YOU to EVERYONE for your continued love, prayers and support.
