For me, a snow day means a day of having fun in the kitchen which got me thinking about this quote from @michael.pollan (my fav) We’ve been brainwashed to think of cooking as drudgery. Truth. Also, this is bullshit!... I HIGHLY recommend you take 20 mins out of your afternoon and listen to his lecture The importance of cooking and how it can change your life. (on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TX7kwfE3cJQ&feature=emb_logo ) The essence of his talk is this: The step where stuff coming off the farm is transformed into meals (COOKING!) is the most important. What predicts a healthy diet more than anything is the fact that food has been cooked by a human being and not a corporation. food industry has been deliberately dismantling the culture of home cooking for decades. are fed marketing that flatters our sense of busy-ness and tells us you don’t have time to cook, you are too important to cook you’re a loser if you have time to cook. WTF! We have been brainwashed into thinking easy, pre-made and convenient equates to better?!?! Cooking is literally movement. Getting off the couch and cooking for an extra 30 mins every day makes a difference over time. Cooking is nourishment. Making homemade meals is the best way to make sure you get high quality ingredients which means more nutrients. Nutrients keep us alive people! Cooking is art. Learn to cook and I promise you will find joy in the infinite opportunities you have to express yourself and be creative with food. Cooking can and should be FUN too! But here’s a reminder: it’s never fun to do things we suck at and it’s unlikely you’ll improve at anything in life without some practice. So you might need to get in the kitchen and practise a few times to build up your confidence and skills up before it becomes less intimidating and more fun Most important to remember... Food is Love! Love your SELF or your hunny this weekend with something homemade It’s a west coast day and I’m baking homemade sourdough bread! Zero drudgery in sight.
