During this crazy property price fluctuation where nobody seems to know if the growth will be steady or we're going to take a dive and the bubble will burst, it seems that the safe thing to do during this volatility is to stay put and increase existing property values. I got into this industry flipping properties. I enjoyed it so much I changed my career and decided to focus on the real estate industry instead. After 20 in the renovation industry I have realized that property... investment is not as safe as many believe. Recently we have had a project where somebody purchased a home without doing proper investigation. One month into the project we discovered there was asbestos in the drywall. To make a long story short a renovation turned into a total tear down as a result of the remediation costs. Recently the government has clamped down on disposal of anything that may contain asbestos. In the past this was overlooked but today it is a major cost in remediation if asbestos is present. As it is a fairly new industry there are many companies out there that charge unrealistic rates for asbestos remediation. It is important to contact a trusted contractor to make sure that asbestos is handled correctly but within a reasonable budget.
