HAPPY TAILS: ABBI!!!! Super volunteer JANA and family adopted ABBI from HBR just over a year ago. As she celebrates her first Gotcha Day, we asked Jana for an update on how she is doing. She kindly provided the following update: "Abbi came to us as a foster dog from a family who loved her very much but, through no fault of their own, was unable to provide her what she needed. When she arrived she didn't understand why she and all her things were here, in this new plac...e. It took her three days to venture out from a small area around her crate but, once she started to explore, she declared this her home. Abbi is allergic to almost everything but, thankfully not apples because her favourite thing is to eat the apples as they fall off the apple trees in our yard. She takes her babysitting duties very seriously and keeps a close eye on her small person at all times. She's been a true blessing to our whole family. My advice: If you're looking for a family pet, please consider a rescue dog! Like people, dogs have different histories and personalities. There are many rescues who are family friendly and are just waiting to find the perfect fit." Thank you for choosing adoption and giving ABBI her perfect family! We are sharing some sad news about one of our senior bullies who was adopted in the spring- Clyde was adopted by an amazing family at the age of 8, not only was he a senior but a senior with kidney disease! This did not stop his family from welcoming Clyde into their home, sadly he passed away this evening with his kidneys failing him . It takes a special person to welcome a senior animal into their life. Clyde's Dad shared this with me ( Tammy ) I don't know where to start thanking you for giving us the opportunity to spend these last six months with this beautiful soul that was Clyde. His ability to light up a room with his beautiful eyes and genuine spirit. Run Free Clyde, may you rest in peace To Mark, Joana and Cooper- we are all thinking of you <3

HAPPY TAILS: PORKCHOP!! Jennifer and family adopted PORKCHOP from HBR just over a year ago. As he celebrates his Gotcha Day, we checked in with the family to say hello and find out how Porkchop is doing! They shared the following update: ... "Porkchop was brought in as a foster back in August of 2019 and met him halfway off the 401 for transport. He quickly fit in our family with two teenagers and a Frenchie and Bugg. He is so loving and docile and is an absolute Velcro dog who must be touching someone at all times. Needless to say we knew he had to stay and adopted him officially in a October. His favourite past time is sleeping! He snores so loudly but I find it’s music to my ears! He also just loves his hooman and fur sisters. His favourite toy is his green alligator and he brings that everywhere! We are all just totally in love with him and the feeling is certainly mutual. Except when he tries to sit on his fur sisters as he wants to be really close and snuggle. Our advice to give to new fosters is to love them, have patience and the return they give you is ten fold! Rescue dogs seem to have an appreciation to those who have rescued them! Thank you, Jennifer, for adopting Porkchop and giving him his best family! So happy for all of you! Hello from HBRs palliative forever foster Billy Billy and his best friend Michael spend lots of time outside, as you can see. You may remember Billy's story .. he was left at a shelter at 9 years old by his owner who got a new girlfriend who was allergic. Billy was abandoned with an enlarged heart AND a high grade heart murmur. Billy will live out the rest of his days with Michael and Rita knowing nothing but love ... HAPPY TAILS: ARI (now ARWYN)!!! Melody and family adopted ARI from HBR last year. As she celebrates her first Gotcha Day, we checked in to see how she is doing! Melody provided this update: "After bringing her home, we slightly changed her name from Ari to Arwyn. She’s also commonly called Honey, Princess, Chubby, Angel, Beautiful and Sweety. ... By far, Arwyn’s favourite things are to eat and sleep. Sounds pretty boring but its amazing to see how much enjoyment she takes out of doing these small things in the comfort and security of her own home. Who knows whether she’s ever had that opportunity/experience before. When we first got Arwyn, we weren’t really able to even pet her. We attributed that to trust issues. Arwyn is now a completely different dog and is comfortable with us as well as strangers she meets on walks. The most impressive thing is that she loves belly rubsand not just any belly rubs. She loves when we flip her over on her back and rub her tummy and legs. She’ll sit on her back for as long as you’re willing to give her belly rubs! So, in one year Arwyn’s gone from a dog who barely let you pet her back to one who’ll let you flip her over on her back. I think we’ve gained her trust." When asked about any transition issues, we were told: "Arwyn wasn’t all that well house trained and that’s a generous statement. It probably took 6-months to fully train her to go outside. We can now leave her several hours without worry that anything will happen. Otherwise, she adapted very well." The family provided the following advice to potential adopters: "Arwyn is our first rescue so this wisdom comes with that caveat. With your love and kindness your dog will gain the confidence to let go of their fears. Their true character will come out, and they can begin to freely live their life in accordance with their personality rather than developed anxieties. Watching Arwyn grow into the dog she’s meant to be has been the most rewarding aspect of adoption." What an amazing update! We are so happy for Arwyn and her forever family! Thank you for giving her the best life - and for sharing this adorable video!

WELCOME Hector Please join us in welcoming handsome Hector the 3 year old Bulldog to our foster program this week. Hector is 1 of 2 BIG medical cases that HBR took on this week. Happy Saturday from HBRs permanent foster - Billy Billy is a permanent member of HBR. 9-year-old Billy was surrendered to a shelter by his owner when he got a new girlfriend who was allergic. He has a severe heart murmur AND a very enlarged heart. With weeks to months to live, super fosters Rita and son Michael have devoted their hearts and opened their home to Billy to make sure those months are full of love and adventures. Billy has recently started his heart medication ...and is busy living life to the fullest with his new best friend, Michael.
