Honest Physiotherapy 25.04.2021

We are seeking a part-time contract therapist willing to work some combination of days, evenings and weekends, with a strong focus on being an expert diagnostician and with a strong ability to educate and communicate the literature to patients. Our desired candidate should have strong manual therapy and exercise prescription skills as our clinic does not use any electrophysical modalities any other assets are bonuses, but these two base qualities are a necessity. This indiv...idual must be willing to work independently as our clinic is a one-on-one model facility with no reception, so answering the occasional phone call, staying connected to patients via e-mails, as well as managing bookings and payments will all be part of the job description. A successful candidate will have a keen interest in staying connected to the literature and immersing in evidence-based practice. They will be passionate about patient care and be willing to work in an interdisciplinary fashion with other members of the patient’s health care team. The candidate should be self-motivated to meet deadlines and improve the quality of patient care delivery. And above all, they should love physical therapy! If you fit the description or know of someone who does, please feel free to DM us and let us know!

Despite how sick we are of talking about COVID these days it’s still important to keep each other safe. Here’s the words of a recent patient who felt reassured that we’re still taking on the important measures to ensure good health and longevity for our clinicians and our clients. This is all the more relevant with the impending return to Phase 1 lockdown; we at Honest are doing our part to protect you and your loved ones from COVID-19.... Stay safe this weekend!

Happy April 1st! Today we recognize our Worst Employee of the Month, Coconut. Here is a photo of Coconut sleeping on the job. She frequently does not show up for work until about 9 AM after she has awoken and eaten a late breakfast. She can be seen leaving her toys all around the clinic and spends most of her day fawning for attention from clients, distracting them from their exercise programs and self-care.... This employee needs at least one long walk a day or she will get all dramatic and whiny. She can also be found taking regular naps throughout the majority of work hours when she returns back. How entitled! #aprilfools

This week we celebrate the fearless and bold women in our lives. We celebrate mothers, sisters, wives, daughters, aunts and grandmothers. We celebrate that which is feminine, female and fierce. We are so proud of your achievements and progress, your merit and moxie, your strength and courage. We celebrate the nerds - Mme. Curie, Florence Nightengale, Margaret Hamilton - healing and writing code and watching things glow.... We watch you take flight and blaze new paths - Amelia Earhart, Sally Ride, Kathrine Switzer. You take a stand and fight - Rosa Parks (well, a seat), RBG, Harriet Tubman - and set precedence in the world. You create beauty and majesty - J.K. Rowling, Frida Kahlo, and oh my god you are amazing Emily Dickinson. You have presence and demand injustice be righted - Rose McGowan - and you command attention and clout and respect - Oprah Winfrey. You are beautiful, you are incredible, you are righteous, you are strong. Chess got it right when it made queens move wherever they please. Today we celebrate the Commander of Honest Physiotherapy Clinic, Magdalene. Thank you for being everything you are and for putting us in check.

Introducing Coconut! Our resident clinic assistant! Coconut is a 7-year old Bichon Shih-tzu who loves attention and cuddling. She is most often happily napping or busy finding a toy for you. Her favourite food are carrots and Benny Bully liver treats. Coconut is quiet and friendly and loves company; an added bonus to your physical therapy experience! But if you’re afraid or allergic to dogs, let us know and we will happily keep her inside the household for you.... Tell us about your pet!

Acupuncture at a physio?? Acupuncture is the insertion of FINE filament needles into specific acupuncture points that help to manage inflammation, pain, and encourage healing. Its basis is in Eastern medicine, and its usages transcend into the physical therapy realm, with research showing it beneficial for injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome and Achilles tendonitis.... My favourite application is for radiation-induced mouth dryness (xerostomia) in head and neck cancer care, which few know that physical therapists can help manage! We are rostered to use needles in practice and are certified by Acupuncture Canada to safely and effectively bring this technique to you. And when your needs extend beyond the musculoskeletal realm, we coordinate closely with registered acupuncturists to help ensure your care goes into experienced and capable hands like @ljade3. What do you use acupuncture for? Physical therapy should be honest, both in business and clinical practice. There is the understanding that marketing is supposed to be somewhat controversial, as it’s meant to garner attention and, even better, incite an emotional response. There is a saying that any publicity is good publicity, and as a result social media marketing, like these inflammatory ads directed at physical health businesses, are incredibly toxic.... The purpose of good healthcare is not to book as many clients as possible, but to eliminate as many clients from your clinic as you can. To us, being wildly financially successful is not the litmus test of a good provider. The more that people know about their condition and the better you are able to keep them independent, happy, and fulfilled signals how successful you are as a clinic. Good business should be about promoting well-being and helping those in need return to their livelihoods, NOT about keeping as many patients as possible for as long as possible. Honest is about being honest; that’s our philosophy, our namesake and our mantra. Let’s shake up the way physical therapy is delivered and bring an honest brand of healthcare to you. You deserve it.

Thank you to Luc M. for the glowing review! We are so happy to work with members of the community who are interested in taking care of their own physical health, who are also themselves committed to helping others. Luc is a personal trainer @bodyarchitects_yeg who looks out for his own health post-hip surgery, but also helps coach and support the lives of his clients in their endeavour to live their best lives.... We work closely with our clients and with other members of their health team, and this is a fantastic example of when those two worlds come together collaboratively. What are you thankful for this Thursday?
