We found a varroa mite on one of our drones! Now that the honey is off, it's time to get that hive treated.
Coming very soon to 199 Highland St in Haliburton! Local honey and beekeeping supplies. Calling all local beekeepers, let us know what supplies you would like to be able to purchase locally.
What a cool combo!
Another great reason not to group bees and wasps together.
Electric fencing makes some people uneasy but is vitally important! This big bear mangled the fence wiring last night and left a paw print as evidence, but didnt get into our bees!! It would have been shocked but uninjured and hopefully learned its lesson to stay away.

Theres a bee party in our backyard!
Always nice to see a monarch caterpillar! Long live the pollinators
We have an entrepreneur on our hands! Local beekeepers, were working to keep prices down for everyone. We have boxes for sale with various options - built, built and painted, unassembled and painted or just unassembled. Prices are comparable to what youd pay at the big distributors but saves you the drive and helps this young lad learn the value of hard work! A look inside the hive
Today is the day and the weather looks fantastic! Come on out to Head Lake Park and check out the amazing vendors. Well be talking about bees and the uses/health benefits of honey and other bee products. Were on at noon but the whole day will be a blast, dont miss out!
We are very excited to be the keynote speaker for this event! Very well run and attended last year, and sure to be another success in 2017. Come on out to learn about the health benefits of local honey!
Pollinator seed packs are now available! $5 gets you 1 gram (over 100 seeds) to help feed honeybees and native pollinators. The packages are a blend of organic annual and perennial plants. Call 705-286-2847 or email [email protected]. We will also have them for sale this weekend at the Haliburton Home & Cottage Show.
Bee rescue! Through several bricks and a board of plywood we vacuumed a colony of bees to rear at our apiary! More destruction than we would have liked but a good, strong, LIVE colony of honeybees to add to our yard.
The bees are enjoying the dandelions and sunshine today!
The dandelions are finally out! Theyre not weeds, theyre bee food and the leaves are super healthy to eat in salads!

Just helped some friends put their hives back together after a bear smashed them last night get those fences on folks!! Whats amazing is that the bear didnt touch the hives that died over the winter. Didnt even take the lids off
Pollinator seeds coming soon! Non invasive plants to support honeybees and native pollinators, stay tuned!
Beware of treated seeds! If you can believe it, there are seeds sold as pollinator seeds that have been treated with neonics and other harmful chemicals! If you buy seeds that are a strange colour (red, pink, blue, etc) please dont plant them. Sidenote: if you need gloves to handle seeds, theres something seriously wrong!
This is coltsfoot, its blossoming now and makes great early bee food!! This pretty flower blossoms before its leaves comes out and is often mistaken for dandelions or seen as a weed. Let the flowers take over your yard and feed the pollinators...grass is boring!
Great information on swarms. Keep your eyes out this spring/summer and call us if you come across any bees in need of a new home! 705-286-2847 or [email protected]
We could explain the waggle dance, but David Attenborough does it so well!
Had a great time last week at Langton Public School talking to the grade 4s about honeybees. They asked amazing questions!
