We've updated our awesome Resources page with a podcast section so these fantastic interviews with Friends on Horses - Podcast can live right at the top. And we just added the excellent conversation with Jana Hunter of Copper Cricket Equine Care (be sure to like both their pages!) Go have a watch listen https://www.hoofgeeks.ca//interview-with-jana-hunter-equin
Many people have no idea there is a correlation between laminitis and grass pastures. Or between multiple vaccinations (5-way/6-way) and laminitis. Or between... sweetened bute, sweetened dewormers and laminitis. Or the relationship between laminitis and oats laced with preservatives, insecticides, fungicides or oils versus whole oats free of any additives. Or the relationship between 'seedy toe' and laminitis (seedy toe is another symptom). Or the relationship between founder and laminitis (for all practical purposes, they are the same). Or causality. Many vets, farriers and horse owners still believe that laminitis randomly happens to some horses and not to others - like cancer. That is not the case. If you manage, feed and board a horse according to the needs of the species, there is no reason to worry about laminitis. But keep them in a pasture like the one pictured, and you have a ticking bomb. The horse does not have to be "EMS," "IR," or diagnosed with "Cushings/PPID" to be susceptible. ALL horses around the world are susceptible to laminitis for the same reasons. This is a debilitating disease that many horses die from due to the shock of the pain or get euthanized because the horse owners are not given accurate advice. Most products labeled "laminitis cure" or "laminitis prevention" are not doing either. Photo provided courtesy of Petr Cenek. Please educate yourself on the symptoms and/or physical characteristics present in order to prevent your horse from unnecessary suffering.
LOYALTY. Farriers. Vetinarians. Chiropractors.... Trimmers. Dentists. Nutritionists. Saddle fitters. Physios. Feed companies. Trainers. Instructors. Complimentary therapists. And any other professionals that care for your equids. All of the above want the best for your equids, all of the above who are professionals are always happy to discuss problems and will try their best to give solutions, when solutions can't be found then the above who are professionals will always be happy for you to ask for second opinions and advice from others. You should always feel that you can talk freely with any professional . BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER! THE EQUIDS IN YOUR LIFE ARE THE ONES THAT DESERVE YOUR LOYALTY ABOVE ALL THE ABOVE. So never be afraid of upsetting others ahead of your equids health.
Looks like fun!
