Who wouldn’t want a companion as smart, quiet and sweet as Cira?! This 16 year old ArabX mare is destined to find her forever home where she will excel at being a human or horse companion only. Arthritis in her rear hocks is far too uncomfortable to hold a rider despite her potential. Standing around 14.3 this well mannered girl is perfectly content in any situation she is exposed to (kids, dogs, cars, tractors, quads, etc.). Not much bothers this gem. She can be a bit stubb...orn with her back feet but that’s only because it’s tricky to stand on three hooves during trimming when arthritis is a factor. Cira comes with a few lumps and bumps but most notably she has been touched with a Prophets Thumbprint making her especially special . We can’t wait to see where this sweet soul will land as she finishes her Natural Horsemanship Training with our amazing trainer! See more

It takes a villiage and the village persevered.... Relationships were made, relationships were challenged, relationships were strengthened. With the support and guidance of the Grunthal Auction House and the professionalism and grace of the contracted horse buyer, we in partnership with Blackbird Rescue Equine Rescue and Rehab and The Good Place: Farm Rescue and Sanctuary managed to save the whole lot of horses brought to market.... Huge shout out to Jessi Hadfield and Cassie Gosselin for all their efforts!! What a wicked bunch of gals I had the pleasure of working with....humbled by their strength and wisdom. For the full lot of horses spared, check out The Good Place: Farm Rescue and Sanctuary

Introducing Moon, an 18month old female Great Pyrenees pup who proved to be an elusive survivor roaming the area for well over a month. Thankfully some very kind hearted and concerned folks were able to gain her trust where she then entered into their care. I picked up Moon today and took her to Dr. Graydon who graciously fit her in between surgeries (thanks Doc!!!). Despite being on the skinny side, Moon was given a clean bill of health (phew!!!), and after a warm shower ...sure cleans up nicely! Moon has been placed under Manitoba Great Pyrenees Rescue (who are fantastic folks and the experts on GP pups) as we are a inundated with horse rescue responsibilities at the moment. She will however remain in our foster care until she finds her forever home. Incredibly sweet and inquisitive, I have high hopes we will be able to find her furever home with the support of MGPR and folks like yourself (please share). Thank you to all who contacted us about Moon forging her future which undoubtedly will be one filled with love and warmth. See more

Is it weird that this tickles me in all the right places?

Hooves 'N Hounds 13.03.2020

Our stunning, inquisitive and brilliant little filly is ready for new adventures. Flicka is a two year old Appaloosa sweet heart who is definitely going to make a lucky family very happy. From essentially untouched to an affectionate and willing girl, Flicka will excel in any discipline. Flicka is easy to catch (mostly because she loves the touch of a gentle friend) she halters easily, leads, ties, takes bug spray, holds her feet and loads without hesitation. She has excell...ed in all challenges which to be honest is jaw dropping! From flapping tarps to bouncing balls off her back to dragging noodles Flicka has aced her ground work. She is used to dogs, tractors, highways, children and basically anything else we throw at her! UTD on farrier work, vaccinations, vet care and deworming. Approved applications only which can be found on our website at www.hoovesnhounds.org Video available upon request. See more

Rear dismount....why not?!

Hooves 'N Hounds 17.02.2020

How this horse has not yet been adopted is beyond comprehension.... Side note....ignore the goofy concentrated face, balancing on a squishy moving balance beam is tricky for someone as uncoordinated at I am

Farrah, 10year old QH mare. This video says it all.... UTD on feet, vaccines and worming. Approved application only.

A dognapping occured yesterday in Gimli. Some time during the day, someone entered Pam Sigurdson's house and stole her Great Dane. The dog is a 6 year old black... and white, intact male Harlequin Great Dane with a fleck of blue in his eye and a slightly ripped ear. A photo of the dog can be seen on CJ107 Facebook page. If you see or have any information about the missing dog, please contact RCMP. Sigurdson stated in a Facebook post "Hes my love and my child .. so please help me get him back." She is offering a cash reward for his return. See more

Yeah, love it when you spoil me by letting me out to graze on the fresh green lawn mama but chillin in the cool garage is more appealing at the moment....you dont mind, right?

Hooves 'N Hounds 18.12.2019

What do you see when you look into the eyes of your beloved furry friend? I see many things including unconditional love, gratitude, safety, I see the keeper of my secrets, my therapy, companionship and so much more. Perhaps the better question is what dont you see? I dont see judgement, I dont resentment, I dont see a need to live in the past or the future. I see a clean slate everyday where the focus is in the now, the present. If these are the gifts our animals lend...Continue reading

What are the highlights this past year has lended you? Did you pursue your goals? Did you find your passion? Did you check off a detail on your bucket list? Did you find love? Did you let go of love? Did you perhaps start a new job, buy a new house, go on vacation? Did you take time to work on yourself, take time to breathe and immerse yourself in the fine details? Can you recite a handful of blessings? Can you pin point your favourite moment in the last year? Have you embr...Continue reading

Is there room for optimism and hope in the intangible when faced with critical, life defining and gut wrenching decisions? Or are you better off governing decision making processes with a realistic, tangible, evidence based process? The day started off with my pager going off, I was needed at work to cover critical care transport in the province with no option to turn down the request. So I began my chores as the sun was just beginning to rise from its slumber. I found Dusty...Continue reading

They tried to make me go to rehab.... I said yes, yes, yes Our three rehab projects.... Beau: PVO seizure. Teenage gelding who is incredibly sweet and gentle. Used as a therapy horse in his previous life, Beau found himself in the care of people who didnt know teeth need regular attention. Extremely emaciated, Beaus initial score upon possession was a 1.5, 2 at best on the Horse condition scale. Hes already showing improvement despite a long way to go. We adore this boy Flicka: PVO seizure. This yearling filly was seized from a hoarding, neglect situation. Initial body score upon possession was a 2. She was untouched but has since warmed up ALOT. She loves butt scratches....what better way to a fillys heart then to scratch her ass Inigo Montoya: Auction horse. This little stubby eared gelding pony is one of a kind. His feet look like they were recently hacked off with a hack saw. Severely foundered this sweet, gentle and well demeanoured gelding has sooooooo much to offer. Once his hooves are fixed and his legs and back pain/stress are addressed, we may just have to keep him as a pony for my little girl...who knows?! Either way this guy has a bright future awaiting him. ***Points if you know where the name Inigo Montoya comes from....no google searches!!***

If you love someone set them free, if they come back to you...it was meant to be. ~Toots...aka Granny K This sweet Shepard X has spent her life being cared for by a kind and very loving older woman who unfortunately was recently diagnosed with a terminal illness. The owner has asked HnH to find her best friend a home where this intelligent and gentle pooch will be loved and cared for in the best way possible. Holly Buddy is a 6 y/o healthy, 50lb spayed female who is UTD ...on all vaccines (including Lyme and Kennel Cough). She receives tick and heart worm prevention annually. This smart and spry little girl is house trained, knows a number of tricks and has great recall. She is an energetic little thing so she requires daily exercise but she is also happy kicking back and relaxing. Holly Buddy is a happy little soul making it pretty tricky to do anything but smile when she is around. We are humbled by the bravery Holly Buddys owner has shown by making an incredibly selfless and difficult decision out of nothing more then love. Our thoughts and prayers are with you When you really care about someone, their happiness matters more than yours ~Unknown If Holly Buddy is of interest to you, please contact us for more information. Applications are available on request. To an approved home only.

When we bring an animal into rescue, we commit to uncertainty, financial strain, endless amounts of risk and to some degree stress (the kind of stress that surfaces when you have to scale 300 yards of snow, deep as your waist to retrieve a pup tied up in barbed wire ). But with that commitment we ascertain a certain degree of freedom because our attention and focus is honed on the animal which ensures a bright future. We are liberated when we reject failure as an option, whi...ch keeps us focussed on our deep commitment to our animals. Depth is where the gold is buried. And you have to stay committed to something and go deep to dig it up (-Mark Manson)or in this case - dig her out! Congratulations to Eefah and her new AMAZING family! Commitment has yet again paid off...thank you Teresa(not pictured here ),you and your family are incredibly special people, your level of commitment to Eefah from the start is admirable. Eefah is one lucky girl See more

Well, after a rather traumatic few days, Eefah is safe and sound in our care. Eefah (which is the phonetic spelling of an Irish term for beautiful) is an extremely timid 4 month old Husky x Malamute (?) who clearly struggles with trust. Eefah will need plenty of patience and socializing but thankfully she is already making small steps. Big shout out to Dr. Graydon for her patience and soft touch, Eefah is underweight but otherwise healthy, phew!!!

Hooves 'N Hounds 05.08.2019

FOSTERS NEEDED HnH has been asked to step up and help three Husky/Malamute pups who have found themselves in an impossible situation. These little guys are nearly three months old and need placement ASAP. Curious and incredibly sweet but timid we are looking to find foster homes for these three stooges so we can have them vetted and prepared for adoption. Please contact us directly if you can help these guys on their journey to finding forever homes.

Returning to the saddle!!! If there was ever a person to defy the odds....Rebecca Fentum-Jones So proud of you little lady

Hooves 'N Hounds 26.06.2019

A warrior is a brave person who shakes hands with the obstacles and challenges that lay before them, a person who is determined to overcome fear and vulnerability in order to reach personal triumph, a person who isnt afraid to put one foot in front of the other as they navigate through pain and uncertainty. Rebecca Fentum-Jones epitomizes what it is to be a warrior. More over her fortitude, strength and resilience have since made her a survivor. Take a look at what Becks is working on and consider buying one of her bracelets...who knows maybe a bit of the warrior and survivor in her will be passed on to you or someone you love
