Since the beginning of COVID we’ve launched various programs targeting children, seniors, refugees and food insecure households, we’ve delivered nearly 5400 emergency food hampers vulnerable families & offered remote caseworkers. But the demand for food assistance and support has grown so much faster than we could tackle, with thousands of individuals falling through the cracks, more needs to be done. Food insecurity is detrimental to the health and development of people of all ages. Dietary deficiencies can impede children's capacity to learn, just a few months of inadequate nutrition can set a child back a lifetime. Knowing where your next meal will come from helps adults' to earn a living or parent effectively by freeing up headspace. Once food security is assured, the next step to ensure lasting impact is to tackle root causes of hunger and ensure it doesn’t resurface as a threat in the lives of those we serve. The upcoming holidays can also add stress and financial obligations that stretch families' resources, exacerbating the situation. We need $50K to produce and distribute enough food hampers, adequate PPE and continue essential services in advance of the holiday season.
