Have you heard about the 16 Days Campaign? The Global 16 Days Campaign, launched by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership, has been used worldwide to call for the elimination of gender-based violence. In 2018, a multi-year theme focusing on ending gender-based violence and harassment in the world of work was announced to coincide with the adoption of a historic new International Labor Organization Convention with the same focus. In 2020, the Campaign will increase its effo...rts to amplify the voices of women workers in the informal economy while continuing to call for the ratification of International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention 190 and to end all forms of GBV in private and public spaces. In 2020, the campaign has a dedicated focus on informal women workers whose lives and livelihoods have been acutely impacted by COVID-19 and the unprecedented economic crisis that has followed.

It has been so amazing to see our community come together during these difficult times. This 2020 has been a massive challenge for all of us, but even more so for those that are less fortunate and don’t have secure housing (or housing at all). Today we want to take a minute (or two) to thank two amazing places that have helped us here at HOPE with their donations. In the first two photos you will see the amazing people at Baptist Housing (@baptist_housing) who donated amazin...g goodies. Some of them included hand-knit toques made by Loretta We want to make sure our friend at Mill Creek, Sun Pointe and Smith Creek Homes also feel our appreciation for them today. The last photo is the donation we received from the West Kelowna Salvation Army (@salvationarmycanada). They donated boxes worth of feminine products which are always in high demand amongst those we serve. Thank you all SO MUCH!

Today as a part of THRIVE we are focusing on Giving Back. There are endless opportunities for giving back at UBCO or in Kelowna and we would like to highlight ...a few of our campus and community partners who are active in harm reduction. The gift of time is very generous as busy University students and you can make a difference by volunteering with the organizations in our post. For more information on these groups please visit their respective websites SHARP UBCO CSSDP Okanagan HOPE Okanagan #ubco #harmreduction #ubcokanagan #ubc #campushealth #substanceuse #community #givingback #thrive

Kelowna, did you SHOW UP or what?! Our drive today was a massive success, we collected around 20 bags worth of men’s and women’s warm clothing, socks, toques, and gloves. We are forever grateful to everyone who made the time on this chilly Saturday morning to drop things off, and of course, our amazing volunteers who sorted the items and kept the good spirits Our community is only as strong as our most vulnerable and marginalized members. Today you all showed up for them, and we love you for that

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT Meet Jess! She has been with us for a bit now and we are so thankful for her Jess, originally from the UK, moved to Canada 4 years ago. She is 6 months away from graduating from nursing school and looking to pursue a career in mental health nursing whilst incorporating street nursing. Her end goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner and specialize in mental health. Jess has always had a heart for helping the population on the streets and that is why she... can really connect with us at HOPE. Why did she join HOPE? To start connecting with her community and spread the compassion she has so deeply for the individuals on the street. Here are a few (fun) things about Jess: She moved to Canada by herself at 19 She hiked the west coast trail in 2018 after she had been temporarily paralyzed from the chest down in a freak accident Anything that includes star gazing, sunset/sunrise watching and beautiful views- She’s in!
