The great outdoors - the place children can truly be free to explore, shout, run, jump, connect with nature and free their minds! At Hopscotch, we greatly value getting outside and exploring nature in all seasons! In addition to our onsite outdoor play space, our educators and children love adventuring to the nearby trails and playing in the large field right behind our centre. These quiet, safe, traffic free, open areas are great for encouraging physical distancing while developing gross motor skills and learning all about the natural world!

Happy Halloween weekend Hopscotch friends! Our Mighty Learners had tons of fun this week exploring Halloween and learned a lot along the way! Activities included spooky volcano experiments, Halloween bingo, story-time, dance parties, making witches’ brews (and being amazed by learning certain fluids repel each other!) monster feet gross-motor play, slime, and creative art exploration! All carefully planned to inspire fun education while following all health protocols - safe and creative fun! #hopscotchearlylearning

Mix, paint, smile, repeat! Our ‘Seekers’ (i.e. toddlers) have been exploring transportation and having tons of fun creating shapes and mixing colours on their steering wheels! Children’s creativity is unleashed through the process of creative art. Keeping it open-ended allows them to explore, relax, and enjoy the success of creating without boundaries. It helps support fine motor and cognitive development as they plan, predict, use tools, observe, and enjoy. They may even choose to describe the process, tell you their story, and build language and expression skills in the process. Creative and fun learning!

Let’s jump in a pile of leaves, waddle like a turkey, roll like a pumpkin, float like a leave falling from a tree or sprout like a mushroom! Movement cards are a great way to get children to move their bodies in different ways. While developing their gross motor skill these cards also assist with cognitive development - learning different adjectives while moving! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Hopscotch friends!...
