Did you know that over the years so many dental myths have been created according to popular beliefs? Let's take a look at some of them and see what's wrong with it: You can drink as much diet drink/pop as you want because they don't contain sugar - wrong! Diet drinks/pop are generally highly acidic and it may eat (erode) away the enamel which is the outer covering layer of the tooth. Try to go to healthier alternatives to make you hydrated, like water, milk, etc. Brus...hing hardly will make your teeth cleaner - so wrong! It can cause damage to your teeth and gums (abrasion). It can also make your teeth more sensitive. I don't need floss if I brush properly - nope! There are some surfaces between your teeth that the toothbrush can't reach. That's why is so important to complement your oral hygiene with your floss. Also, floss helps to prevent the risk of periodontal (gum) diseases in the future. If your kids don't eat candies, they will not get cavities - not really! Candies are not the only food that implies caries because even healthy foods have the potential to some degree of creating cavities. Make sure to brush the teeth after the main meals. The secret is: Always brush and floss after meals! Do you have any myths you want to share with us? comment, we will love to hear some curiosities! #ottawa #ottawadentistry #dentistwestboro #ottawadentaloffice #ottawadentalclinic #ottawadentists #horizonsdentalcareottawa #canada #ottawacanada See more

Hello, my people! Today we are going to talk about one guy I believe you all have heard: Fluoride! What is fluoride? Fluoride is a type of mineral that can be found pretty much everywhere (air, water, soil, some foods, etc). Fluoride is most popular for the fact that it's found in mouthwashes and toothpaste with the proposal to make the teeth enamel stronger to prevent cavities. Researches have shown that fluoride (on the right amount) is also very important for infants a...nd prevents future cavities, that's why many countries have added a small amount of fluoride to their water so everybody can ingest it. It's important to note that kids who are around 3 to 6 years old should have an adult help them in brushing their teeth and also only a pea-sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste is enough. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us, let us help you! #ottawa #dentalcare #ottawacanada #ottawadental #ottawadentist #dentistottawa #ottawadentistry #ottawawestboro #horizonsdentalcare #canada #ottawadentaloffice See more

If you ever had a cavity treated, you might remember that after removing the decay and having the filling placed in the right position, your dentist started to polish the restoration. But do you know why? Naturally, there is an aesthetic reason, however, the microroughness related to a filling that is not polished will accumulate more bacteria around the margins and surfaces. If this happens, it may create a secondary decay in the long term that leads to infiltration or leak... of the filling, which will get further infiltrated by bacteria, creating a cavity under the filling. Also, if bacteria accumulate near the gum line, it will create gum inflammation that will irritate the area. Another reason is that the dentist has to make sure that your bite will be properly done, i.e. the upper and lower teeth will match correctly. Moreover, the polishing can make the composite stronger by intraoral polishing. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us!
