For those who don't know Colleen and I, we're the makers behind Hornby Island Soap. Theres been a big influx of followers over the past couple months, so hi!! Thank you for being here. We are so overwhelmed and excited about your support. Colleen started the company back in the 1970's on Hornby Island, making soap out of lard from the islands farmers, and later with olive oil when a friend gifted her 20litres.... We met in 2011 and it was one of those instant soul family kind of things. We got talking and it turned out, after 30 years of making soap she was ready for a break. She'd been waiting for the right person to take over the company, and I guess I was it! I'd been working as a home ec teacher for quite a few years and was ready for a change of pace myself. So, she sold me the company for a dollar, taught me to make soap and sent me on my way. Since then she's taken me in like a daughter, and has been a pillar in many storms over the past decade. In this time I've extended the product line to include some pretty incredible creams and body oils, and most recently I've begun infusing them with CBD isolate to offer another tier of nourishment, and soothing for the body and mind. When Covid hit Colleen decided she was ready to get back to making soaps, as its always been a love of hers. So I gave her back all her soap making equipment and freed up the time to start shifting things online so we can continue to share our goods with the world. Since April, we've renovated our shop in Courtenay, built a new online store, started building our wholesale accounts, and collaborating with a network of even more epic local, female, makers. This is huge and exciting, and sometimes terrifying time for us, as it probably is for many of you. We've relied on farmers markets and craft fairs for the past 40 years as our main sales channel but with the state of things right now. It feels better to have a few different streams flowing. We don't know know what the future holds, but know that we are committed to keeping you clean and nourished, while doing our part to give back to our mamma earth. A couple weeks ago our friend was caught in an engine room fire and suffered 3rd degree burns all over his body. We sent him a care package with our Sun Serum and Kuure Body Oil.
