"Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened." - Billy Graham Thank you to all of the soldiers that both risked and gave their lives for this country so that we can live free.

Section 7 of the Federal Child Support Guidelines (Guidelines) specifically addresses those special or extraordinary expenses. Section 7 outlines the categories of special or extraordinary expenses which include: - child care expenses incurred as a result of the custodial parent’s employment, illness, disability or education or training for employment; - that portion of the medical and dental insurance premiums attributable to the child; - health-related expenses tha...t exceed insurance reimbursement by at least $100 annually, including orthodontic treatment, professional counselling provided by a psychologist, social worker, psychiatrist or any other person, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and prescription drugs, hearing aids, glasses and contact lenses; - extraordinary expenses for primary or secondary school education or for any other educational programs that meet the child’s particular needs; - expenses for post-secondary education; and - extraordinary expenses for extracurricular activities. Section 7 expenses require both parents to share in these costs in proportion to their income after deducting from expense, the contribution if any, from the child. In addition, the parties must also take into consideration any subsides, benefits or income tax deductions or credits relating to the expense. Also, it is important that the parties obtain the other consent prior to incurring any costs. #familylaw *facebook posts are not considered legal advice

Many people who go through a separation and divorce feel many emotions and also feel that no one around them understands how they are feeling. Always remember.. you are not alone in your feelings.

Be encouraged and know that you CAN do this. Things have changed a lot since March but just take it all one day at a time and keep your chin up! #familylaw

Happy Long Weekend! To say this year has been tough is an understatement. Thanksgiving is one of our most beloved traditions, and the prospect of missing out on the social connection we all crave right now is hard to bear. At this critical time, we must stick to our households and refrain from gatherings that could put us and our loved ones at risk. If you’re feeling disappointed, you’re not alone. Seven months into it, we are still in this together. Rather than dwelling on what you can’t (or shouldn’t) do this weekend, reimagine for yourself and your household a weekend that will offer rest, relaxation and social connection in a way that safeguards the health of the community as a whole and then embrace it and enjoy the little things. Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours.

As the holiday season approaches, separated and divorced parents may anticipate its arrival with uncertainty. One of the main concerns for parents is usually around scheduling the key question being where, and with which parent, the child will spend all or most of his or her time during the holidays. If the parents have formally separated or are already divorced, there will be a separation agreement or Divorce Order in place, which incorporates the settled arrangemen...ts that are in place and exact days and times that the children are to spend with each parent and holidays. It is important to have a holiday schedule in place so your child/children have a schedule and can spend important holidays with their family. #familylaw See more
