It's been 8 months since the pandemic started....and winter is looming. Mental health issues related to our lock-down and the pandemic are especially hard for people with depression and other mental concerns. The Canadian Mental Health Association, has a 24-hour helpline: 1-833 456-4566 or Crisis Line 1-888-322-3019 Toll Free. Please share this potentially life saving information...
November 25th 2020 Good morning everyone, This year as proud Sponsors we are running a fundraiser in support of The Animal Auxiliary Thrift Store in Vernon. Du...ring these very hard times this group had proved themselves over and over to be very supportive of their community and surrounding Okanagan. We are very Proud to run this fundraiser in support to keep the store open through these trying times. The Volunteers have worked tirelessly in trying to keep up with not only running the store but on line auctions and we hope we can offer some relief. Please help us help them and donate today. Every little bit will help. Thank you for you very kind donation
This weekend was the five year anniversary of one of our most valued volunteers. Abby started coming to the barn on Saturdays, with her parents, when she was eight years old...in the winter...and she stuck with us all the way. Thank you for a great five years!
Let us not forget our brave horses, donkeys, mules, dogs, oxen...all who served with our soldiers, and some who still do.
Attention Thoroughbred lovers
A very thoughtful donation has been made in honour of the passing of this much loved horse. His family has shared some thoughts about him and his life (below). We thank them for their generosity and for thinking of the Horse Protection Society; our heart is with you. OT was a kind but complicated horse - highly intelligent but highly sensitive and not wholly suited to the expectations for racing, or showing - in the end I think what he enjoyed most was posing, or prancing and... people telling him how handsome he was!!! (And he loved the snow) He was a thoroughbred - born May 11, 1993 - died Oct. 16, 2020 - his racing name was Country Caper but his stable name was OT because the night he was born was a double overtime hockey game between the Canucks and Los Angeles Kings - he was a beautiful foal with a lovely dished face (I was the first human he met when he was born). His great- grandfather was Majestic Prince who won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness and second in The Belmont. OT was not a great racehorse - he received a lot of betting support because of his looks and his breeding but running fast was not his forte - never quite discovered his forte but happy to say he was a kind but complicated and absolutely beautiful horse. He was an amazing teacher for me - a nervous horse with a nervous rider - somehow I never fell off him despite two decades of very challenging rides - and somehow we managed to respect and care for one another. He was A Gift! See more
