The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern book 30.01.2021

Happy 73rd anniversary to the Horseshoe Tavern On this day in 1947 Jack Starr opened this "rave of Toronto" at 368-370 Queen Street West. I'm thinking of all the incredible shows I've seen there - from Drive-By Truckers to Old 97's; Matt Mays to The Jayhawks. More importantly, I'm thinking about Jeff Cohen Tara Craig Laskey & the rest of the legendary tavern's employees as they weather this pandemic. Long live live music. Long live the Shoe.

Happy 65th birthday to Jim Cuddy. A longtime friend of the Horseshoe Tavern as it was one of the venues along the Queen Street strip where Blue Rodeo honed its sound in the mid 1980s. I was humbled this great Canadian songwriter wrote the foreword to my book. Photo: Heather Pollock.

Thanks to The Flyer Vault for unearthing this ad for the Shoe from Feb. 2000. What a lineup. From Northern Pikes to Emm Gryner to Bloodshot Records artist Wayne Hancock. What caught my eye though was Warren Zevon. Would have loved to have seen him live. Let me know if you were at any of these shows.
