MEDICINE SPEAKER REVEAL We are very excited to announce our final speaker in the Life of a Healthcare Professional series, Dr. Sneha Lohan! Dr. Lohan completed her Bachelor of Science at York University before proceeding to medical school at Queen's University. She did her residency in family medicine through McMaster University and has been working as a physician since July 2019. Currently, she works as an emergency room physician and hospitalist at Georgetown Hospital an...d Brampton Civic Hospital. In the summers, she works up north, doing rural emergency medicine. As a fairly new grad, she is still hoping to continue to learn more about working in the field! Dr. Lohan enjoys working in a variety of different roles, which is why she chose family medicine, as it allows flexibility for its style of practice. When she isn’t in the hospital, she enjoys running, hiking, and watching mindless TV. DENTISTRY SPEAKER REVEAL Introducing our third Life of a Healthcare Professional speaker, Dr. Daniel Lee. Dr. Lee graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry in 1998 with High Distinction. Previously, he attended UofT (Trinity College) in the Molecular Genetics & Molecular Biology Specialist program. He is a Canadian Dental Association President's Award winner, a distinction given to one student in the graduating class for overall achievement at UofT. He ...was also specially selected to the Honor Dental Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. In addition to his academic and career achievement, Dr. Lee has been involved in charity work over the years. He is a member of an organization called Health Outreach, a registered Canadian charity which helps Guatemalan children in-need. Aside from extracting teeth, Dr. Lee has offered more comprehensive fillings and root canals to save adult teeth for growing children in this developing nation. Daniel, his wife and three children reside in Oakville. Music (piano/organ) is his biggest hobby, as it provides him with better dexterity and concentration to aid him in dental procedures. NURSING SPEAKER REVEAL We are back with the second speaker in our Life of a Healthcare Professional series, Rachel Chen! Rachel is a registered nurse (RN) in the multi-organ transplant unit at the University Health Network (UHN). Prior to becoming a RN, Rachel was in the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics double major program here at the University of Toronto. She was then accepted into the compressed (second-entry) nursing program at York University, where she became a RN.... As a RN, Rachel is responsible for taking care of patients before and after their transplant surgeries, which includes conducting assessments, planning and executing care plans, providing necessary teachings, monitoring for changes in status, advocating for patient well-being, and maintaining seamless communication among different healthcare professionals in the interdisciplinary team. Overall, her goal is to provide the best care for transplant patients & their families. Outside of her nursing role, she previously conducted clinical research related to transplant in the Multi-Organ Transplant Student Research Training Program (MOTSRTP) for 5 years that’s how she was inspired to become a nurse! She is excited to have the opportunity to work with some of her mentors as colleagues on the same team! PHARMACY SPEAKER REVEAL We are very excited to announce the first speaker in our Life of a Healthcare Professional series, Theodora Udounwa! Theodora is a first-year pharmacy student at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy here at the University of Toronto. She previously studied Pharmacology and Toxicology at UofT for her undergraduate degree. If you are not familiar with the role of a pharmacist, they are essentially a medication expert who dispenses compounds and prescribe...s drugs, as well as provides health care aids and devices to patients. They also educate and partner with patients to achieve optimal care. An interesting fact about Theodora is that she finished the TV series The Office in less than a week!
