I was astonished to see how well preserved this magnificent Tehran was when I was on a hunt in the grand bazaar this past summer. In my experience it is difficult to find large antiques that are well preserved. Typically they grace the floors of the main rooms of palaces and after decades of aging gracefully, they succumb to wear and tear if they’re not cared for appropriately. Inheriting many beautiful rugs from my father and grandfather is a blessing. However, there is one drawback. Because I didnt acquire each individual piece, sometime I dont give them the attention they deserve. Perhaps it is because I dont know the provenance or the story about how it ended up in our collection. This Isfahan is a prime example. It has been part of our family collection for many many years but I finally paused on it today when I accidentally stumbled upon it while looking for another carpet.
