This piece of driftwood is already a work of art. I can’t wait until it’s draped in wool

Seton Lake, British Columbia. Handwoven with natural fibres and lots of heart. I have an intrinsic need to tell stories with my weavings. It’s an honour to be trusted with the task of capturing the memory of a sacred place or a moment that holds space deep in someone’s heart. The stories that I’ve been told by commission clients have brought wanderlust, wistful bliss and even tears of compassion. They make me want to see the world, walk every shoreline, hold on to those I love even harder. Thank you for those important reminders and for allowing me to weave your stories. Strings and wool can be pretty meaningful

When I send one of my tapestries off into the world, I always wonder how it fits in to someone else’s home, how the light falls upon the fibres, through what lens it’s gazed upon. This tapestry was commissioned for a baby nursery and I had many, many wonderful connections with the mama-to-be throughout its creation. She sent me a gorgeous mood board (smartest idea ever!) featuring their palette, finishes and the calming, chic design they had envisioned. Well, my heart is exp...loding right now because today I was sent this I’m a little bit baby crazy to begin with, and now that my littles aren’t so little anymore, I wistfully adore all things baby. My dream job would be baby holder. Not joking. Maybe creepy. But, I. LOVE. BABIES! Ok, now that you’ve gotten a little peek into that weird side of me, back to this beautiful nursery where something that I made with my baby loving hands now lives. What an honour it is to be trusted with the special job of adding handwoven magic to this family’s new journey. I am so grateful Swipe to see it in full view before it left House of Woolly Thyme See more

The holiday tryptich up close and personal. When displayed as a set in my previous post, these tapestries capture a festive sense of warmth and joy, but individually they are unique tapestries that stand the test of time and season. Fibre art for Christmas and the rest of the year too

House of Woolly Thyme 14.10.2020

December is finally here and that calls for a spirited holiday tryptich. Would you like to see these handwoven tapestries listed in my shop? Check out my stories for some detail shots. These wall hangings were woven throughout a weaving workshop that I led last weekend on Zoom and I had so much fun meeting up online with some lovely and talented new weavers. This weekend, I’ll be hosting another and hopefully in the new year we will feel safe and comfortable to workshop ...together in person again if not, we always have Zoom. These tapestries were woven with fibres from Canadian producers and shops including local hand dyed slubby from @fleeceartist_handmaiden, merino from @minevillewoolproject, cotton rope from @ropeshopdotca, wool from @customwoolenmills, and wool roving from @divinityfibers.

One of the most fascinating beaches near our home is the beach on the way to the beach. My muse. At high tide, it’s unassuming and you’d probably pass by without an urge to stop. It has beautiful, meandering, marshy streams leading to the ocean and it’s simply lovely. But at low tide it comes to life as the rippled sandy beach and eternally shallow sea transforms into a dreamy playground for kids and puppies and beachcombers searching for treasures and sea life. This tapestry is very large and filled with handmade squishy fibres, many produced by talented local artisans. Swipe for details or view it in person at the @chesterartcentre Fibre Fall Exhibition opening on October 15. Feel free to DM me if you’d like to purchase this piece.

I am hoping to finish up my latest creation today This was so much fun to weave and I just had to share the side view. There is a lot of 3 dimensional texture and depth that a hanging tapestry photo just doesn’t fully capture.

House of Woolly Thyme 01.09.2020

My newest work in progress is a big one. Can any locals guess which beach inspired this tapestry?! It’ll be exhibiting at the Chester Art Centre’s upcoming fibre show in a few weeks. And don’t forget to sign up for my introductory weaving workshop there on October 20 if you’d like to learn the art of tapestry weaving.

A waterfall ... in the woods. Have you ever been on a hike and discovered an unexpected waterfall flowing over the rocks? Full stop, jaw drop, magic If you haven’t, seek them out. There is something so sacred about the discovery, the wonderment. Some of my favourites can be found along the East Coast Trail back home in Newfoundland and that was where I drew my inspiration from as I created this commissioned tapestry.

Weaving workshops are back! On October 20, I’ll be leading my Introductory Weaving Workshop at the Chester Art Centre in the beautiful seaside village of Chester. The last time that I gathered a group of weavers together for a fun and creative day was back in February when the concept of social distancing was far from our thoughts. While there is much to be thankful for, I deeply acknowledge that it’s been a challenging, fearful and lonely time for so many o...f us. In doing so, I plan to create the same nurturing and supportive weaving workshop experience, with some slight format changes. As I return to gathering weavers on a personal level, I’ve given much thought to how we can come together cautiously and comfortably for everyone in a Covid mindful manner. Fashionable, mask wearing weavers will each have a personal table upon which they can unleash their creativity and spread their weaving wings. Weavers will also receive their own Introductory Weaving Kit (as seen on my website) including all of the tools, materials and instructions needed for the workshop. I will support you at every step and help you create your own unique tapestry wall hanging at the workshop and you can leave with the tools and skills to continue to pursue your practice from home. Register for this workshop on the Chester Art Centre website and you will receive a 20% discount code on this premium weaving kit! There are so many new curated kits to choose from and this will help to curb the communal sharing of supplies. Doesn’t it feel like the right time to gather and heal through art!? Contact the @chesterartcentre to register and while you’re there, check out their incredible lineup of fibre workshops and events for the fall season. I’m so excited to work with their amazing team on this special workshop experience. Now, I’m off to practice my eye smiles! https://www.chesterartcentre.ca/adult-1 See more

I am living for beach days right now, but I must confess, Autumn is my favourite season. This geometric tapestry feels like a hike through the woods with tones of green, brown and tree bark grey, and one of the turkeys in my house once said that it looked like an owl! You can find it in my online shop .... or I can keep it in my mudroom

House of Woolly Thyme 18.06.2020

I love how the textures and abstract flow of this tapestry design contrast with the stark black and white shades. Back when I was deep in the blissful fog of baby life with my own 3 children, I recall learning that babies are not born with colour vision and see the world in black, white and shades of grey for their first 4 months. Fact or fiction? I’m not an expert, but wouldn’t this handwoven piece make a great addition to a newborn’s nursery! You can find it in my online shop.

Weaving waves again ... and pretty happy about it

House of Woolly Thyme 03.05.2020

This custom tapestry is a handwoven depiction of the Saltwater Marsh Trail near Lawrencetown. Running the trails is one of my favourite ways to move my body and clear my mind. Trail running on the East Coast is absolutely dreamy, especially when you find yourself pit stopping at ocean look offs or marshy habitats like this. I hope you can take some time to soak up the sunshine and beauty of nature today

House of Woolly Thyme 18.04.2020

I skipped a beach day today to weave. But my hands and the wool found the water anyway. Art can always take you anywhere you want to be
