The House of Hope will be open for in person church Sunday, April 11th at 11am. There is no substitute for real, live church attendance! An essential part of being the church is people coming together to hear the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. We are following physical distancing, mask wearing (no exceptions) and reduced seating capacity as per provincial regulations. We have 3 empty seats available for visitors -- please message if you'd like to attend tomorrow.... Everyone & Anyone is welcome -- please come as you are.

I wanted to share this post I saw with you today... This is Shrek the sheep. He became famous several years ago when he was found after hiding out in caves for six years. Of course, during this time his fleece grew without anyone there to shorn (shave) it. When he was finally found and shaved, his fleece weighed an amazing sixty pounds. Most sheep have a fleece weighing just under ten pounds, with the exception usually reaching fifteen pounds, maximum. For six years, Shrek ca...rried six times the regular weight of his fleece. Simply because he was away from his shepherd. This reminds me of John 10 when Jesus compares Himself to a shepherd, and His followers are His sheep. Maybe it’s a stretch, but I think Shrek is much like a person who knows Jesus Christ but has wandered. If we avoid Christ’s constant refining of our character, we’re going to accumulate extra weight in this worlda weight we don’t have to bear. When Shrek was found, a professional sheep shearer took care of Shrek’s fleece in twenty-eight minutes. Shrek’s sixty pound fleece was finally removed. All it took was coming home to his shepherd. I believe Christ can lift the burdens we carry, if only we stop hiding. He can shave off our ‘fleece’that is, our self-imposed burdens brought about by wandering from our Good Shepherd. Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

This Sunday will see, in accordance with provincial guidelines, our first service back as we re-open the doors at the House of Hope. In an effort to be as wise & harmless as possible, we are taking steps to provide a safe environment to those who'll be taking part this week: 1. Our capacity will be limited to 30% of maximum and we are working on family/household and individual friendly seating. The reality is that approximately 20 people or so will be able to attend this Sun...day's service. 2. Service time will be from 11am to 12pm. 3. Face covering will be mandatory for entry into the building and is required to be worn at all times. If you do not feel comfortable wearing a mask for the full hour, please do not attend. 4. Physical Distancing is in effect. Please do your best to stay an appropriate distance away from people not of your household while in the building. 5. Sunday school will be open (with limited capacity). Please explain the importance of physical distancing, face covering and appropriate practices to your children. We look forward to having them back and want to keep everyone safe and comfortable. 6. Additional guidelines will be shared on Sunday morning as we seek to navigate this crisis with wisdom and reason to promote everyone's physical, mental and spiritual well being.

Standing behind our National Bishop's leadership. It's time to stop looking the other way. People of faith are called to be humble, determined and prayerful people of action in our communities.

A message from our National Bishop, Woodroe Thompson, COGOP - Eastern Canada. Psalm 62 -- "Waiting on God" -- a message that seems to be more relevant with each passing day.

#BlackLivesMatter I was reminded by a friend this morning that too many churches have chosen to be silent about the harsh reality, struggles and fears faced by people of colour. Racism, bigotry and oppression don't just exist south of the border, but also in our very own schools, workplaces and communities (and, by our silence, in our churches). As the pastor (which means shepherd) of the House of Hope church I will declare it here: Racism and oppression are wrong and must b...e opposed, not just in prayers, but also in resources and actions. I know that some people will be tempted to respond to this post with "all lives matter" and think that they are doing something positive. Please refrain from doing so. Until #BlackLivesMatter, saying "all lives matter" is not helpful or supportive to the black community -- and, we should seek to do unto others as we would have them do unto us, shouldn't we? Imagine when Christians were being persecuted by Rome nearly 2000 years ago. Shunned, ridiculed, oppressed and even killed. What if someone back then decided to speak out against the killing of Christians with a #ChristianLivesMatter campaign, to which the public replied "All religions matter!". That wouldn't make me feel warm and fuzzy and heard either..... Matthew 5: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

The subversive power of changing your mind. What does it mean to repent and why should we? Mercy, forgiveness, reconciliation and love are powerful choices.
