Bethany story 4: A client who immigrated to Canada is putting together a genealogy book with photos dating back three centuries in his family. He learned to properly use his MacBook to email, scan, send, and receive photos from his family abroad.

Bethany story 3: A client, whose recent stroke caused speech dyspraxia, was incredibly excited to discover Google Translate’s audio function. She pays a lot for speech therapy twice a week, and now with Google Translate she will be able to cut back on the speech therapy appointments. She uses the function to hear what words, sentences, or phrases sound like, and then she recites them back (using Google Translate’s microphone function).

Bethany Story 2: An elderly client came to the library to learn how to navigate Internet Explorer so that he can track his granddaughter’s university hockey team online. He can now get daily updates, and he was able to schedule a trip to watch her final two games of the season in Montréal.

HRCAP has heard a lot of great stories about our Digital Youth Intern, Bethany, currently working at one of the Halifax Public Libraries. We're going to showcase some of those stories here. Bethany Story 1: One client came to the library to learn how to use Gmail. Through learning how to navigate email, she has been able to connect to her first cousin in Ontario, whom she hadn’t spoken to in over 15 years. He’s her last surviving family member, and it’s been exciting for her to have this new communication.
