FALSE! Head lice don't fly or hop, but they do crawl very quickly! Head lice can spread rapidly through direct hair-to-hair contact or indirectly. While lice may be small, their impact can be big! If lice are making its way around your child's school or extracurricular activities, have your child wear their hair tied up tight in a bun or ponytail or cut very short. Remind your children to avoid head-to-head contact with people and to avoid indirect contact by not sharing hats, hairbrushes, or hair ties/accessories. https://bit.ly/2DdQS8A

Are you ready to quit smoking? Quitting smoking is the single most important thing you can do to improve your health, but we know this can be a challenge and takes time. Each person's approach to quitting smoking will be unique and different. One thing that anyone who plans on quitting smoking can benefit from is a quit plan. Making a personalized quit plan can keep you on track and help you through the times that challenge you the most. Here are some helpful tips to incorpo...rate into your quit plan: - Choose a quit date. Once you've decided you're motivated to quit smoking, pick a date and start getting ready. - Get prepared. Quitting is easier when you're prepared. Knowing what to expect and how to overcome challenges will make all the difference. - Know your triggers. The best way to beat cravings is to avoid them in the first place. By figuring out what is "triggering" your cravings you can take control of them. - Conquer cravings. Cravings will be the most intense in the first few days. The key to getting past cravings is to remember the 4 Ds: delay, distract, deep breaths, and drink water. - Manage withdrawal. Nicotine withdrawal is common during the first two weeks of being smoke-free. One of the best ways to manage withdrawal is to use nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) or prescription medications. These can significantly reduce withdrawal symptoms and double your chances of quitting for good. You are in charge of this journey and even though the process of quitting smoking may be hard, it can be done! For more information on nicotine replacement medications and other and ways to quit smoking, speak with your health care provider today. https://bit.ly/34PU2L2

Take some time this weekend to practice proper hand hygiene with your children before they head back to school. Below are some steps to ensure that your child is taking the proper precautions when they are back at school. Step 1: Wet hands with warm water. Step 2: Apply soap.... Step 3: Wash hands for at least 20 seconds! (including your palms, back of each hand, between fingers, thumbs and under nails). Step 4: Rinse well. Step 5: Dry hands well with paper towel. Step 6: Turn off tap using paper towel. Washing your hands for 20 seconds can seem like a long time for children. Try making the process more fun for them by singing the alphabet or practice counting to 20 in a different language. https://bit.ly/2XW4I67
