We agree! Every neighborhood in Langley needs more cycling infrastructure to give people another transportation choice. https://www.langleyadvancetimes.com//letter-langley-neig/#
New Translink cycling maps are available for pickup at your local bike shop!
In case you missed it, HUB Cycling’s 8th Annual Bike Awards were last night. The Township of Langley and Ministry of Transportation received an Infrastructure Improvement Award for the 216th Street interchange project. Also, local committee member, Dr Geraldine Jordan, received a volunteer appreciation award for her continued commitment to improving cycling in Langley. Congratulations to Geraldine, the Township, and MoTI on their awards. You can re-watch the broadcast by clicking the link below!
The new Glover Road overpass is to include 2.5 metre cycling lanes on either side and a separate two metre wide sidewalk. Check out the plans and let them know your thoughts: https://storymaps.arcgis.com//081ebc20f9d84d2cb6827c5ff9fd https://www.langleyadvancetimes.com//overpasses-at-232nd/
Build it and they will come.
The Ride the Road Program is targeted towards students in grades 6-8. Ride the Road introduces students to the freedom and responsibilities of cycling in an urb...an setting. Throughout 5 units, this course explores basic bike maintenance, road safety, and culminates in a small-group neighborhood road ride in the schools’ community. Say hello to Rianna, HUB's Marketing Manager. She rekindled her love for cycling fairly recently before joining HUB. This is why she is a #HUBSupporter: ... "I grew up cycling gravel trails when my family owned a property in Washington as a kid, but actually stopped cycling for several years once we sold the property. It wasn't until about 2 years ago that I decided to buy a bike again and rekindle my love with cycling, and man, oh man, did I miss it. Nothing quite compares to the feeling of the wind blowing in my face, my blood pumping and just the freeing power of riding my bike. Cycling has seriously changed my life both mentally and physically. It has helped me slow things down a bit and notice the beauty of the world around us rather than always rushing form Point A to B. And during this weird and unsettling year, cycling has helped make my life just a wee bit easier with WFH cycle breaks and weekend cycling adventures. I've witnessed first-hand the work HUB has done to make cycling safer and better for people in Metro Vancouver and my hope is that this work can continue for many years to come." The City of Surrey is toying with the idea of reducing speed limits on residential streets after council on Monday unanimously gave the green light to a pilot project that will see speed limits reduced from 50 km/h to 40 km/h in three residential areas and to 30 km/h in three others for one year. https://www.surreynowleader.com//surrey-looking-into-redu/#
Smith's Falls, Ontario has installed protected bike lanes in the downtown core. The city has a population of 9,000. What is the Township of Langley's excuse?
