This is a wonderful gift and so long lasting. This girl will always be able to say this is auntie’s plant and this is uncle’s plant.... she will be surrounded by love
Everyone should call before you start any project where you will be putting a shovel or pick into the ground. It is very easy.
Another amazing tree
Honoured to be part of the Invasive Species Council of BC's Take Action Tuesday. Took a walk around my garden and discussed various tips and ideas for fall. Thanks Corbin for making it so comfortable to do this.
2020 is confusing everything! These are not supposed to be blooming until March!
Join us on Facebook Live at noon for #TakeActionTuesday! ISCBC's Corbin will be chatting with Anne Kulla, Huckleberry Landscape Design, as she walks us through important steps that every gardener can put to use in the fall.
This is awesome! Trees are amazing
Looking forward to seeing this new feature at Art's Nursery
That is just a cool tree.
Very cool looking tree

Obviously this rhodo does not know it is August! Don't recall ever seeing a spring-blooming rhodo bloom in August. September maybe. An unusual year, to be sure. Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather (could be a couple of degrees cooler but it does not last long ). Happy summer everyone!
This fella came to our yard today. So cool to see an owl so close.
A little bit of pruning advice on a Saturday.
This is very cool. Going to have to try it soon. Anyone want a curvy wall built?
Huckleberry Landscape Design got a new toy today. Our very own laser level! Excited to use it on several projects coming up in the next couple of months
I don't know who did this garden but they did a lovely job. Great rocks and the allium are gorgeous. The bees are the added bonus.
Great looking plants. They also have landscape materials such as soil, mulch and stones
Don’t panic about these guys. Be vigilant but they are not taking over the world.

A cool way to grow potatoes
Good to keep in mind. Don't be afraid of them
Some good thoughts and advice here
Just a reminder to water your plants. Although we usually expect April showers to bring May flowers, we have not had much rain for a couple of weeks. With this beautiful, sunny weather we have been having, plants, especially in containers, have been getting dried out. They will appreciate the drink.
Spring is here! Some of the plants in my garden, doing their thing. I think this is my favourite season...
A definite expert on pruning. Had the privilege to attend a pruning course with her years ago. Very common sense approach to pruning properly.
Saw this hanging on one of my trees yesterday. Glad i saw that post about not doing a pristine garden cleanup the other day. Now I at least know this is not a dried up leaf! Curious to see what kind of creature it will be. It would be thrilling to be there when it emerges
Lesrned something new today. Did not know you should delay mulch until after temperatures are consistently over 10C to allow the soil burrowing insects to emerge. Lots of great tips here.
I am hearing of more people this year who want to grow their own food. This is a great time to start planning what you would like to grow. You don't have to have a big garden to grow your own food. Planters, small corner of the yard, mixed in with your perennials are all great places to grow food.
Just heard an interesting talk about bees and beekeeping at the Bartlett Tree Experts Annual Client Seminar. Janice Bobic is very knowledgeable about all things bees. She was involved with changing Burnaby's bee bylaw. A bit of help below in determining nice bees from not-so-nice bugs.
Just finished yesterday! Thank you Huckleberry Landscape Design crew. Love what these lights do for the garden and walkways. So much safer going down ( or going up) the stairs at night. The fixtures are subtle but do a good job of lighting up the area to show where you are going. ... If you would like to see what some landscape lighting can do for your yard, give us a call and we can set up a demonstration set of lights for you to try out
Lots of great inspiration at this year’s show. Worth a visit.
This is my office today. Man, I love my job!
A big shout out to Trevor! Great guy anyways and now he rescues cats too! Bartlett Tree is lucky to have you working with them.
The view from my back door this morning. I love looking out on a gray day and seeing these pops of colour. It really brightens my day and mood. I highly recommend planting trees and shrubs that have coloured bark or leaves for winter interest. Makes those dull days just that much brighter.
Interesting concept.
Did not take long for the gurgler to start freezing. Going yo have to add some water to keep the pump going. I can still see the birds using it.
Good information for staying warm and safe out there.
Here is some great information from Gary Lewis an the gang at Phoenix Perennials about this cold snap that is going to hit us this weekend. Bundle up those plants! Weather Alert Severe Cold Snap Coming to Coastal BC... Hello Fellow Gardeners, It seems we are about to experience a severe and most unreasonable cold snap in coastal BC with the worst of it starting this weekend likely in the Saturday to Sunday overnight period. Nighttime lows may plummet to as cold as -16 degrees Celsius in Vancouver with temperatures varying a bit depending on your location. The temperature dip is particularly worrying for evergreen plants and any perennials, shrubs, or bulbs that are not fully dormant or that have been putting on new growth. We wanted to warn you so you can do what you can over the next two days to prepare. Here are some ideas on how to protect your plants: 1. Collect fallen leaves or other organic material and pack them around or pile them on top of less hardy plants. 2. Put upside down pots on top of budding or blooming hellebores and other plants or bulbs in growth or bloom. 3. Throw old sheets, towels, or plastic overtop of more delicate plants. For taller plants like hardy citrus and other subtropicals, make a teepee out of bamboo or wooden stakes and cover in plastic. 4. If you get a good snowfall before the full cold snap hits, be glad. Snow is insulating and will protect your plants. The Inuit knew what they were doing with their igloos! You can collect and shovel snow on top of any plants that need protection. 5. Bring pots up against the house, especially on an east or south wall. Mulch the top with fallen leaves or other organic material. Wrap pots in bubble wrap or cover with old sheets or towels. 6. Bring plants that can't take a cold snap into the house for the duration of the severe cold. Keep them in a cool room to try to minimize shock. Then put them back outside again after the cold has passed. Good luck! And may the force be with you. And if you've completed your garden chores and tucked in all your favourite plants, fellow gardener, then you have time to do some shopping! If you're like me you're gonna need some retail therapy to de-stress from everything going on outside. Info on our pre-orders just happens to be below. Imagine that! ;-) Cheers, Gary and the Phoenicians The Winter Jewels Hellebore Pre-Order The best and most diverse hellebore strains in North America. Explore and Order!
The view from my desk this morning. Our first snowfall of the year! This is a very wet snow so keep an eye on your trees, shrubs and hedges; knock off the snow if it gets thick and heavy on the branches. This is also an excuse to get outside and enjoy a little bit of winter.
I agree. Being outside and active is the best way to have a good long life.
Do you have some winter pruning planned? Be sure to do it the right way.
Wishing our clients and suppliers a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year. We appreciate working with you all. Thank you to our clients for allowing us to serve you. Thank you to our suppliers who make it easier to make our customers happy. May you have good health and much happiness in 2020.
This is a lovely plant. And fairly tough too
I hear a lot of laughter with our crews. Music to my ears

Last year's presentation with Charlotte Rowe was fabulous and this year looks to be even better. This is a great opportunity to meet up with friends and colleagues and get some inspiration for you designs and gardens.
Another peaceful moment for you to enjoy
Some of the cool fungi spotted on our hike today on Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. So many different ones, all doing their part in the forest.
A few moments of peace on Whistler mountain, brought to you by the men and women who have served to make sure we can enjoy moments like this. Lest we forget...
Well, the walls and river rock are done. The plants are in. I think we are done! Very happy with the results. It was a fun project and the clients were outstanding. They already have plans to pocket plant the rock wall.
This will be a great learning opportunity for small businesses. The price is reasonable and Jacki is very good. You will learn a lot. If you are struggling in your business, you can't afford to miss these 2 days.
The bottom walls and the small ones are now complete. Onto the upper walls tomorrow!
The sod is done! Wow! What a difference from before. Thanks to my fabulous crew for working so hard and fast. You guys are the best!
Starting our first boulder retaining wall. Nice looking rock from Bedrock Natural Stone. Certainly glad to have Scott's Excavating helping out with this one. Couldn't move those things by hand! Excited to see the final version.
Come out to celebrate fall with this fun event. You can see the scarecrows right up until Halloween
Hello everyone!! I hope you are all enjoying summer and a nice flush of roses. I have a few late summer pointers for those of you living in a part of the wor...ld like mine. The roses should have had their last feeding by now as this will encourage a nice flush of bloom well into the fall. Our Diane Loomer rose is one that looks especially beautiful in the fall! If you enjoy cutting your roses be brave and enjoy them at all stages from bud to fully open! We are a long way from the last blooms of the season. Those are the ones best left on to help signal the plant to go dormant. Enjoy your garden. See more
We received this photo from a concerned citizen and wanted to remind you why topping trees is not the way to go. 1. It doesn't work - trees have a genetically p...re-determined size, they will continue to grow until they hit it. Topping will not make your trees smaller. 2. It's expensive - once you top a tree, you will have to keep topping it to "keep it in its place". Topping creates a "hydra effect" cut of one head, get several more (rinse and repeat). 3. It's ugly. 4. It's dangerous - the new growth that comes from topping is not strong, opens the tree up to decay, removes vital leaves that the tree uses to photosynthsize, makes the tree top heavy and more likely to blow over in a storm. 5. It makes you look bad - You may top a tree to create a water view, but you should know that you have some friends and neighbors-who probably won't say so because they are being tactful-who see a view of a butchered tree with water in the background. TREES ARE THE VIEW.
