Smudge was in to see Dr. Olermo for a dental last week. She's such a sweet girl and she was an excellent patient!

This mischievous little lady got a hold of and tore up a bean bag toy. When mom approached her to give up the goods, she took off for a chase. When mom finally caught up with her she decided the best way to keep her prize would be to quickly swallow it! Mom called us right away and we decided the best course of action would be to induce vomiting. We weren't sure what the 'beads' in the bean bag were made from, and different plastics and materials can sometimes have weird results when they mix with stomach acids. We also weren't sure if the beanbag would eventually cause an obstruction on its way out. She was given a small injection and within a minute she was giving up the goods. She successfully brought up a 2x2 little bean bag. We're hoping she learned her lesson, but somehow we don't think so!

Today is International Stress Awareness Day. We all know that pets can be so helpful at relieving our stress, but did you know pets can easily get stressed too? Some things that may stress your pet include: moving house new family members, human OR furry... loss of loved ones home renovations/redecorating stressed out humans holidays/frequent visitors weather events and so much more! Not all stressed pets show it in the same way. There may be obvious signs that your pet is stressed, like panting, whining or hiding, but they may also show it much more subtly. Watch for subtle signs of stress such as: decreased OR increased appetite change in bathroom habits accidents in the house lethargy diarrhea and/or vomiting aggression You know your pet best, so if anything seems "off" contact us right away. As you can see, the list of possible stress indicators can overlap quite a bit with other conditions, so a physical exam to assess your pets health is extremely important should you notice any of these symptoms. Giving your veterinarian a thorough picture of what may be going on at home is also important, including any changes that may be causing stress. We can help you decide what the best steps are for helping your pet find their zen again.
