As problems unfold in the public spotlight with the 'Ellen Show', I reflect on how much influence does/can a CEO, CAO, Ex. Dir., or President really have on an organization's culture? Is not corporate culture the responsibility of the CHRO or VP HR (in jest)? According to a recent article in INC., every org. has a culture and the CEO should focus on 4 key aspects of the org. to strengthen the culture; Trust, Words & Action, Connection with Mission, Vision & Strategy, and Purp...ose. Stephen Patscot, a former GE manager, recently wrote on lessons learned from the late iconic Jack Welch, "The CEO owns talent and culture". Stephen recalled, "Jack’s personal interest in people, their performance, potential and career aspirations was well documented...he spent more than half of his time on people. This commitment permeated the organization.... This passion...extends to culture.... The culture was purposeful, and it evolved, but it reflected the leader." As for Ellen, I applaud her decision to directly address the, "toxic culture". I will always be a fan of her positivity and genuine 'be-good' approach to others and life! #leadership #CEO
