Happy Tails! We love hearing from our adopters! Sounds like Rocka found the perfect family for her!... This sweet girl came from a heartbreaking background and took my husband and son a quite awhile to gain her trust. We decided we wanted to give her a chance and feel what being loved was like. When we brought her home it was rough. Many times we thought we would have to bring her back but after a few months she grew to trust us more. The first time she had a belly rub on our bed the grunts and groans of happiness brought tears to my eyes. Rocka has come a long way from where she started from, she loves the outdoors and 1am walks with my hubby, she knows how to sit, give paw, sit pretty and lay down, she comes up on the bed for cuddles but sleeps on the floor beside the bed. She loves going to the park and playing with her dog friends when they are out, still weary of new people but is getting better. Thank you for allowing us to bring this big suck home and for allowing us to give her a chance of being loved. - Huber Family Do you have an update and photos you’d like to share? Got Cans? We'll Take Them! Don't let that 'money' go into your recycle bin, bring your cans to us! We are asking for cans as one of our on-going fundraisers. If you'd like to donate your cans, please make sure they are bagged and NOT mixed ex. pop cans (aluminum) in one bag, pet food cans (tin) in another.... We receive less money for bags mixed with tin and aluminium. We do not have the volunteer power to sort bags, this is why we are asking for your donations to be pre-sorted. Drop your bagged cans off to the grey recycle bins located along the side of Second Chance - 111 McLaughlin Road. These recycle bins can be accessed 24/7. Thank you for your continued support!

Happy Tails! ‘Hello, sending you a picture of Pumpkin (formerly Rinaldo) that my husband Marc L. and I adopted from your humane society in early October. He is doing very well and keeping our older dog active, playing hide and seek. I will bring some donation items from your list when I drop him off on Sunday afternoon for his neutering on Monday. We also donated several bags of cat litter through PetValu. Thank you again, we love Pumpkin!’ -Sheila... We truly have the best adopters! Thank you so much Sheila and Marc for not only adopting, but for supporting us in other ways too! It’s wonderful to know that Pumpkin has such a wonderful home and a fur-sibling too! Thanks again to everyone who chooses adoption

Happy Tails! We are thrilled to hear that Dixie found her perfect forever family! What a lucky girl Happy New Year to everyone at the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes!... Our family had the pleasure of adopting the sweetest, friendliest most fun pup, Dixie (formerly Maggie), on December 18, 2020. She was super high energy at the shelter so we weren’t sure how things would go at home. From the moment we brought her into our family, she has settled beautifully. 2.5 weeks later she still loves to chase and tease her new furry brother, Pawley, but the cat keeps coming back for more! Dixie LOVES walks in the snow and has made friends with a couple of other dogs she sees regularly. She is super smart and seems to already know many common commands. Training has been fun and easy! We absolutely adore our new girl, and already we couldn’t imagine our home without her in it! Thank you! -Sara, Rob and Nolan M. We love getting updates from our adopters! Available for Adoption! Dyna: Dyna came to the shelter after her owners moved away and could not take her. Dyna has been so scared and depressed since then. This was her second home that gave her up, so she has not had a true home to call hers in her long life. Dyna needs a home willing to give her some extra love and care as she does need a diet. Due to this she cannot reach her backend to clean her back, so we did have to tidy that up with a shave, but daily upkeep with so...me brushing will be exactly what she needs. Dyna is described by her previous owners as affectionate, playful, shy to visitors, talkative. She does not seems to like other cats and would best in a quiet home away from children. If you are interested in giving this sweet girl her forever home please call the shelter to set up a appointment 705 878 4618 ext 0 (No emails) she is fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $200 See more

Happy Tails!! Ti-Noir" (now named Felix) is very quickly warming up to our family and loving the cuddles. He's happily purring away. Felix was one of our kitties that came from the kill shelters in Quebec, he does suffer from a neurological disorder that causes him to be unsteady on his feet and have a head tilt and tremor. This lovely family came in and quickly fell in love. Within only a couple days he went from his life being at risk, to being saved and brought to our s...helter, then into a loving home. Its situation like this that remind us why we do what we do and why we love our jobs!! Thank you so much for adopting and giving Felix and new chance on life!!!

Not alot of people get to see the behind the scenes medical part of the Humane Society. When our animals go up for adoption they are healthy and look wonderful. That is not always the case when they come in. We thought we would share with you Rudy. Rudy was a very sweet young kitten when he came in with a severe eye infection, if left any longer there was a risk of not being able to save his eyes. He was able to get vet care then went home with one of our wonderful fosters, where he was nursed back to health. He is now absolutly stunning and living his best life with his new family. We are very thankful for our vets, our team, our fosters, our volunteers, and the public for their generous support.
