Every year, Senior School students and Elementary School students participate in a program called Big Brother. For 5 weeks an elementary student gets paired up with a senior school student who acts as as his "big brother." They do several fun activities to get to know each other. So today we asked a little brother what he liked about the first session. "So Julian, what was your favourite part of today's activity?" "Everything was super fun, but my favourite part was when Minn...a said Alex and I had the best handshake out of all the brothers!" -Julian Harasymowycz ('25) with big brother Alex Cannon ('17)
This week is Diversity Week at Selwyn House, and here are our Women of Selwyn:
Last Friday, the entire Class of 2017 went out for the annual Selwyn House Grade 11 service day. Students went all over the city - some helping the homeless, others hanging out with the elderly, the list goes on. Here are some students that helped run classes Narnia, a daycare in Westmount Park! How was your experience helping out at Narnia? "It was amazing! I was lucky enough to work at Narnia Daycare through last Fridays outing, and I must say that kids. Are. Tiring. The d...ay consisted of games, a few books, a quick improv session and a much needed nap time! The teachers were outstanding, the littluns had way to much energy, and the day was an overall success!" -Noah Gelber, Class of 2017
Tim Schlegel is an exchange student from Germany here at Selwyn for the rest of the year. Tim, how was your first week at Selwyn House? "My first week at Selwyn was awesome. It was interesting because of huge differences between here and my German school - here we have to wear uniform, we're allowed to use laptops, and teachers all have different styles. Everyone is really nice, teachers and students!" And how was your first Quebec poutine?... "Even though it looks really gross, it just tastes incredible!" -Tim Schlegel, the greatest German exchange student ever
Stanford, you play the national anthem on the piano every single week for every single assembly. How long have you playing piano for? Is it a passion of yours? "I've been playing piano since I was 4 years old. I really enjoy it and I think it's amazing how you can create so many beautiful sounds just by moving your fingers. It's been a passion of mine for a long time. There's nothing better than to finally get good at a piece and then to play it over and over again. I mostly play classical music but I would really like to try out different styles. Jazz band next year?" -Stanford Li (Class of 2019)
