Now there are additional levels of protection in place to create the safest environment for you, other patients and our team during the pandemic and for the future. We have new rules and protocols in place to keep patients, staff and dentists protected. Here is what you can expect when you come in for your appointment. ... Our region is in Stage 3, but we continue to follow the guidance of our public health officials and strictly stick to proper safety procedures to lower the risk of COVID-19 transmission, in and out of the office. That includes physical distancing, wearing masks and screening.

Hume Street Dental Care is now open! We are looking forward to seeing everyone. We have put safety measure in place to protect you and our staff. Heres what you can expect when you visit our office. Our dental staff will be wearing more protective gears(PPE) than normal. Our dental office is equipped with an Air Purifier to remove more than 99.9% of aerosols.... We ask you that you limit the number of people you bring to your appointment. There are exceptions for small children and people who require assistance. If a parent or caregiver is allowed, they will also be subject to all screening measures. You may be asked to wait outside our dental care centre when you arrive. You must then wait for a call back to let you know when you can enter. The waiting room will not be open for everyone. Chairs will be spaced two metres apart. There will be no magazines, toys, or any other non-essential items in the dental office, as these are all difficult to disinfect. Patients must wash their hands with a 70 percent alcohol-based solution, or soap and water, when they enter and leave our office. Bathrooms are closed to patient use. Plan to pay by touchless payment, such as credit card or Interac.

Re: COVID-19 / Third Update Date: Monday, April 27 Government News... On Thursday, April 23, the Ontario government extended all emergency orders that have been put in place to date until May 6, 2020. This Emergency Order extension once again includes the closure of outdoor amenities in parks and recreational areas, non-essential workplaces, public places and bars and restaurants, along with restrictions on social gatherings. For clarification, Ontario has been under a state of emergency since March 17 and will remain so until May 12. But any orders issued under that declaration of emergency need to be renewed separately, every two weeks.

Re: COVID-19 / Second Update Date: Monday, March 30th /20 Dear valued patients,... Several patients have asked when our Dental office may be safely reopened for non-emergency work. This evening at 6:00pm we received an announcement from Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) that they will not have information on when clinics should reopen until the State of Emergency has been lifted. RCDSO is in daily contact with the Ministry of Health and will let the Dentists know immediately after receiving the information. However, there is no indication this will happen soon. The Chief Medical Officer of Health continues to call for tough restrictions on movement and the size of gatherings as the number of COVID-19 cases in Ontario continues to increase. At this time, it appears very unlikely there will be any lessening of restrictions in April. The College continues to maintain that all non-emergency dental services should be suspended until further notice, as outlined by the Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario. We thank you for your understanding at this time, and hope that you and your families stay safe and healthy. We look forward to seeing you in the near future when it is safe to return to work. On Sunday March 15th, our College (Royal College of Dental Surgeon) emailed all Dentists in Ontario and strongly recommending that "all non-essential and elective dental services should be suspended immediately" as a COVID-19 spread prevention measure. Our office will therefore be closed for the next two weeks. For emergencies, our patients can call us at 647-883-0452.

Sealants are becoming widely popular and effective; young children are great candidates for preventative measures like sealants (especially on molars) because in many cases, decay has not set in. Even on teeth where decay is present, sealants have been shown to fight additional damage.

Mouth guards should ideally be replaced after each season because they can wear down over time, making them less effective.
