Is it just me or has Collingwood has become a-flutter with women talking about harnessing the power of their cycles? What. A. Gift. I’ve been friends with Nikki Zavitz founder of Pretty River Red Tent a LONG time now, so I’ve grown used to this power, and its way of working itself into every conversation we have, and for that matter, every facet of life. So to hear this information parting ways with the lips of so many women, particularly in this town, has felt like a ...miracle. And it is. It felt like a secret for so long, with women being robbed of this critical information. It drove her nuts. It drove her to do something nuts. Nikki built an ACTUAL RED TENT in Collingwood. Watching her pull Pretty River Red Tent together was like attending a birth. From her initial contemplation of the idea I knew there was no turning back. Through the pains of labour she persevered with the gentle calm and confidence of a woman about to meet her baby. And when it was born, like any mother, she could not WAIT to share it with the world. The ENERGY emanating out from that gorgeous womb by the Pretty River seems to have influenced the entire geographical vicinity. And no one is more grateful for that than her. But Nikki has always undercut her influence which is calm, infectious, liberating and undeniably MASSIVE, particularly in what happened when she pulled this magical spot together. Thank you Nikki, for challenging the local consciousness to recognize what you’ve known and studied for so long. For showing us what passion, integrity and perseverance can do. To demonstrate a true love of community. For willing into existence a place for the cycling sisterhood to gather, share and connect to the wisdom and power of their cycles. Hands up if you're tired of seeing small businesses get the short end of the lockdown stick. Yeah me too. These mega stores, who were thriving before the pandemic (although not as much as they have been DURING the pandemic), knew we were onto something. They saw the variety and quality we delivered as small businesses, and thought, ... "Hey. What if we took this varied community marketplace, replicated it and crammed it all under one roof? Welp, (answering their own questions ) we could offer a convenience that no one could turn down, we'd funnel the bulk of consumers through our doors, and the resulting demand to sell via our store would allow us to drive our suppliers pricing into the ground. That low pricing and convenience would drive all small businesses in the area out of business, and we could gain all of their customers." Smart plan? Yep. Perfect plan? Nope. Because they forgot one thing. . So while we can't make shopping local as convenient as shopping from the mega stores, we can try. Quick Q: Anyone feeling bad for Amazon right now? How about Walmart? Yeah, me neither. It's never been more important to support small businesses. I work almost exclusively with entrepreneurs and I can tell you straight up this is a sector worth saving. The creativity here is incredible and NECESSARY, but small businesses are also the literal break wall between you and the sea of cheap, detached, corner cutting, money hungry big box stores. That might seem extreme but give... it a think I know it's not in everyone's means to shop local, but where it is, do it, k? Let's keep our money in town. Diana from Upperlash was obsessed with clean work spaces before the rest of us were. With COVID restrictions she found it easier to temporarily take the site down to control the flow with manual bookings, but give her a follow on social! The girl knows her stuff and does incredible work. Even as we put this site together before all of this craziness, her focus was sanitation, quality products and professional, skilled service, which made putting this website together a pleasure and gave me such peace of mind that we were calling clients into a safe space.
