Good morning Hunt Club people! I am wondering if anyone out there would like to participate in a weekly group walk. It would not have to be a strenuous activity, just an energetic, socially distanced, group walk through our neighbourhood. The options are endless for routes - McCarthy Woods, the pathway around the Airport Parkway settlement pond. We could start with about a 30 minute walk and go from there. The main aim is social rather than just fitness. We wear masks for those more comfortable with it. If you are interested, please respond to this message.

This weekend I launched my landfill collection service, otherwise known as Earthub Bins! When lockdown first happened back in March, I needed something to ke...ep me active. I made a point of walking around the neighbourhood to get my steps in. I always took the same route and as time went on, I started grabbing items from people's recycling bins on collection night. These items could be egg cartons, cans, and shoe boxes. If you have been following Earthub for a while now, you know that I keep various items out of the landfill for a higher purpose/reuse. It bothered me that so many people could just get rid of these precious items that could go to a better use. But then it occurred to me that maybe they didn't even know better?! Afterall, someone's trash could be another's treasure. I collect: prescription pill bottles to ship in bulk to Matthew 25 Ministries to use as medical supplies in disaster situations egg cartons to donate to local food banks such as Debra Dynes Family House mascara wands to ship in bulk to Appalachian Wildlife Refuge to use as brushes on tiny animals aluminum cans to donate to Empties for Paws - Barrhaven and Area, as they raise money for our Furry Friends 4L milk bags to donate to the Royal Canadian Legion for their Operation #LeavetheStreetsBehind to make sleeping mats for homeless veterans I have launched Route 1 this weekend with plans to do Route 2 in the next couple of weeks, as this will all be done on foot to reduce emissions. As I am based in Ottawa, this collection service is in the Meadowlands/Fisher area! No - my collection service does not cost ANYTHING. The efforts required from you entail some initiative, some cleaning/rinsing, and some sorting! I ship the pill bottles and mascara wands to the US with money from my own pocket. If you would like to help me, monetary donations can be made to [email protected] I am so excited to share this news! Thank you for your ongoing support of my efforts but it is all of us TOGETHER that will make the biggest impact of all! p.s. these used industrial ice cream tubs were going to be tossed in the recycling bin at my waitressing job, I took 'em instead

A pet project of mine (Kat Gracie) that has been on hold till this last Friday...Im curious if any local athletic/personal trainers would be interested in working with me to make workouts using the local parks? Id love to make a scaleable training circuit that we would film and post for each of the parks in our neighborhood. Personally I have enough athletic training through competitive sports to get something together but Id love to work with local trainers interested in building their public profile. If you are interested in being involved let me know!

GetGrowing Hunt Club, BWYL Group and the HCCA are proud to present "The Secret Life Of Soil" Thursday, July 16th 2:00pm Register ahead of time using this link...: https://us02web.zoom.us//6915941/WN_5lZhBrw-SVyI9OCY863ghg We often think of soil as "just dirt". But did you know that one teaspoon of garden soil contains more living things than there are people on Earth? Thanks to all these bacteria, fungi, and microscopic critters, soil is able to grow crops, to absorb and filter water, and to store away carbon from the air. When we garden, our actions have an impact on these underground communities. Science is helping us understand how we should be treating soil, in order to keep it healthy and productive. Through this presentation, you will learn some of the science behind healthy soils, and learn gardening tips and techniques that will help you create a more resilient, sustainable and bountiful garden. Speaker Renée-Claude is a biologist and teacher, working as Science Advisor at the Canada Agriculture Food Museum. She is passionate about sharing her expertise on soil health, gardening, and the science and innovation driving sustainability in agriculture. Always experimenting, Renée-Claude loves to grow unusual crop varieties and to test out different gardening techniques in her own garden and at the museum.
