The SJDA Holiday Craft Market was scheduled to take place on November 28th, welcoming 30+ craft vendors and community members to the Huntsman Fundy Discovery Aquarium. In following Public Health’s recommendation for the Orange Phase, we have postponed this event to discourage large gatherings and slow the spread of COVID-19. NEW TOXICOLOGY PUBLICATION: The effects of early life exposure to weathered and fresh crude oil on later behaviors important for fish survival, such as prey capture, interactions with novel objects, and male territorial aggression was explored by Dr. Danielle Philibert and her colleagues. Sheepshead minnow embryos were exposed early in development then raised to adulthood in clean artificial seawater prior to challenges and observation. Results suggest that oil exposure had n...o lasting impact on the ability of the fish to perform, but instead altered anxiety related behaviors displayed by fish during the assay. During today's sold-out homeschool program, participants gathered data on green crabs, an invasive species. We measured & marked 121 crabs! 71 males, 35 females & 15 unknowns (too small to determine gender). Will tomorrow's homeschool participants recapture any of these marked crabs? Huntsman hosted its first teammate and family seasonal flu vaccination clinic yesterday resulting in 49 more people receiving coverage in our local communities. Our personal lives are often quite busy and it's an inconvenience to take time off to go get a flu shot. We wished to facilitate this important public health matter by providing staff an opportunity to receive a seasonal flu vaccination during working hours, especially while living through the COVID-19 pandemic. #huntsmanmarine #staysafe

It’s #WasteReductionWeek in Canada! Our #DebrisFreeFundy initiative has distributed 24 rope collection bins to harbours throughout Southwest New Brunswick. Our goal is to keep rope out of the ocean and our landfills- we have collected 2250 pounds of rope from the bins this month! The support of local industry users at these wharves is important for ensuring the success of this program. ...
