There is a meaningful quilt on display at Partner's Hall, Algonquin Theatre. The idea originated with Terri Howell and Mary Spring. Here's the explanation given to us: "After many months of isolation Mary Spring and Terri Howell put out a call for anyone who was so inclined to make a square for a COVID isolation quilt. The squares were to express an emotion, feeling, time or place on your COVID journey. All ages of men, women and children sent us squares and the wonderful Libby Duncan quilted it for us. It’s on display at the Surviving Cabin.Fever II show now along with the stories about each square. The pictures below show the actual quilt along with a photo showing the explanations. It truly must be seen to be fully appreciated! #covidart #quiltart #terrihowell #sewingasanartform

Michelle Vyn's entry has an deeper social and environmental message. She writes: "This barn owl is heavily textured! Everything about it is intentional. "Don't Let Me Fade Away" is a mixed media painting on an 18 x 36 wood panel, using acrylic paint and mediums, along with paper and inks. This is a painting with a message on the environment and the status of the barn owl in Ontario, Canada. So many animals are becoming endangered throughout the world. Do we want to see them... fade away? At first glance, this looks like a regular wildlife scene, but a closer look tells more This is art with a message - with the destruction of habitat and the species, represented by the cracking in the bark that is also spreading into the side of the owl. Its talons grip the branch that is in danger of breaking away from the tree. And the snow is accumulating which will eventually "cover" the scene. Will we forget what the winter covers from view? As much as I care about endangered animals (all animals, in fact), I also care about humankind. Far from endangered, yet we live with so many ongoing national and world issues that can at any moment threaten our continued existence. And those issues are still there under the surface tensions of the current worldwide Covid-19 threat. Moving forward, the message in my paintings will not only be about endangered species and spaces For me, it’s more about the One World we share, the One World that is all we have, and the legacy we leave to the future generations of this One World. See this and other artwork on display at Partner's Hall, Algonquin Theatre which is open for your viewing pleasure Monday thru Friday 9:30am to 4:30pm "Don't Let Me Fade Away" 18 x 36" Acrylic, inks and medium on wood panel #michellevyn #huntsvilleartsociety #huntsvilleontario #barnowl #takecareoftheplanet

Partner's Hall, Algonquin Theatre is closed Sundays but will reopen tomorrow at 9:30am. You've probably seen this image on our promotional poster but may have wondered about its' inspiration ... Peggy Bell writes: "At the outset of the lockdown, my daughter lost her job out on Vancouver Island. She had previously been contemplating moving back to Ontario but saddled with high rent and no income, she decided to drive east solo in her little Nissan. On this day, she woke up la...te, after gruelling 11-hour days of driving to self-isolate in Muskoka in a little studio cabin on Lake Oxbow. The sunshine, the fuzzy blanket and the sharing of coffee mirrors my sense of complete relief by her homecoming." Franny Came Home 9 x 12" Oil on gesso hardboard See more

Our member, Tim Lapp, submitted this image and writes: "This photograph of the Grey Glacier was taken in February of this year. Our show Surviving Cabin Fever II continues until October 28 at Partner's Hall, Algonquin Theatre. Catherine Luce displays this entry where she writes: "Searching" is a dreamscape that was inspired by an interesting face like rock formation at Limberlost Forest during a hike there.
