We had the absolute pleasure of meeting Willie G and his biological sister Dutchess Rose for their 12 week vaccine appointment. These sweeties are super lucky their owners know each other so they are able to continue to play and enjoy each other's company even though they are living with their new families. Can you guess which breed of dog they are? #kitchenervets #kwvets #puppiesofinstagram #guessmybreed #huroneastanimalhospital #happypetshappyvets #puppysnuggles #welcometothefamily #preventativemedicine #animalhospital

It's that time of year again where the snow melts, the mud is everywhere and the ticks actively start looking for a blood meal. Did you know that once the weather reaches 4 Degrees or the sun warms leaf litter, ticks can become mobile? Dogs or cats that are energetic explorers of trails, parks, backyards, etc. should look into starting Tick Prevention! Snap 4Dx testing is important to rule out 3 tick borne illnesses (Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis and Lyme Disease) as well as Heartworm. This test should be completed before starting a prevention for heartworm. Call today to schedule your appointment! #tickawareness #snap4dxplus #kitchenervet #kwvets #huroneastanimalhospital #protectedagainstticksandfleas #preparepreventprotect #happypetshappyvets #ticksareback #warmweather #mudseason

Public Dog Parks always sound like they would be the perfect place to take your dog on a weekend or nice afternoon. However, there are risks associated when using these public spaces. Most people do not read the rules that are posted at the entries of these places. Common rules for dog parks include: Dogs must be accompanied by a responsible individual at least 16 years old at all times Keep your dog within your sight and under verbal control at all times An owner canno...t bring more than two dogs at one time to the dog park Keep moving. Standing around causes dogs to congregate which could lead to fights All dogs must have a municipal dog license and current rabies vaccinations with tags worn Clean up after your dogs and their waste in the designated containers Dogs over the age of seven months must be spayed or neutered If a dog starts acting aggressively, you must remove it from the dog park immediately Don’t bring dogs in heat, puppies under 12 weeks old and sick dogs Don’t bring in toys, food and glass containers (Toys and Food can cause resource guarding, some dogs have sensitivities or allergies and giving treats or food could cause health issues) What could this mean for you and your dog? Injury- Your dog may be friendly but you don’t know if other dogs in the park are. Dog fights are common in dog parks and not all owners will take responsibility for their dog’s actions. Transmitted Diseases- You know your dog is up to date on vaccines, and is intestinal parasite free but you don’t know if every other dog in the park is. Stagnate water, communal water bowls, and unmanaged feces can all lead to the spread of preventable diseases. Accountability Free- This means that the city is not liable for anything that happens in the dog park as they are use at your own risk. Not all owners will offer compensation if their dog accidently or purposefully causes injury. This is not something that can be mandated or forced in a public situation. Exercise is necessary for a happy canine and in turn a happy household. Thankfully there are alternatives to using public dog parks. There are Private Dog Parks, where you can schedule off leash time for you and your pet (or even a couple of your dog’s best friends). These places tend to require you to show proof of vaccinations and health status before use. Another option is exploring different trails that your community has to offer! There is a free app you can download called AllTrails where you can specify if you are looking for dog friendly trails to take your pup. This offers safe, controlled leash walks in different settings that will stimulate your dog’s senses. Not all owner’s do keep their dogs on leash, however, if your dog is leashed it does help you have a little more control over a situation. https://www.alltrails.com/mobile *Not sponsored by alltrails.com **Photos shared with owner's permission

We tend to notice that near the end of February into March we receive a lot of calls regarding dogs being sprayed by skunks. This is because skunks are going through their mating period and are now more active. Babies are born end of April into June and start venturing out of their nests near the end of August into September. Young skunks are more likely to spray than adults however, during peak mating seasons they don't want to be bothered. It is best to keep your dogs on a ...short leash and keep an eye on them in the early morning and at dusk. If your dog tries unsuccessfully to become a skunk's new best friend, we do have Skunk Off in stock and it works wonders to remove that new skunky perfume. #kitchenervets #huroneastanimal #kwvetclincs #skunkawareness #skunkoffworks #kwanimal #leashuptopreventunwantedaccidents #wildlifeiseverywhere #BeAwareBePrepared #thatsnotperfumethatsskunkspray See more

We want to pass our love to our extended family, our clients and their wonderful pets. We know that this year it will be a bit different. While the weather will be chilly, the company of your loved ones will help to keep you warm. For those with family members in different households, brighten their day with a phone or video call to show you are thinking of them. We will be closed on Monday, February 15th but back in the office on Tuesday, February 16th. Share a picture of your 4 legged family member with us! #kitchenervet #huroneastanimalhospital #happypetshappyvets #familyday #tellyourfamilyyoulovethem #4leggedfamilymembersmatter #mychildrenhavefur #kwvets #veterinarycare #familycanbenearorfar

On this day we remember those that fought hard for their and our freedom. We remember those who selflessly gave their lives so that we could be free. We remember not only the soldiers but the animals that fought beside them. Heroes come in all shapes, sizes and species. We remember.... we wont forget.

Nov. 12/20- Update- MARLEY HAS BEEN FOUND!!!! Thank you everyone who shared Marley's post. His mom reached back out to us this morning to say he is now home safe. We really appreciate our communities help in keeping their eyes open for this handsome guy! One of our clients reached out to us to report that Marley decided he wanted to go on an adventure and has not been home since Saturday, November 7th. Marley is a strictly indoor cat who is on a special diet. They had recently moved from Sophia Cres area in Kitchener to Homestead Pl area in Kitchener. Marley is likely disoriented and may be trying to make his way back to his old house. If you live in the area and spot him please contact his owner at 226-218-3534 or you can contact the clinic. His family misses him very much and would like to get him home.

Have you wondered how your pets have been spending their visits at the clinic during the pandemic? Orzo the 14wk kitten enjoyed some one on one cuddle time with our Manager today after his surgery. Orzo is for adoption from our friends at Kitchener Stray Cat Rescue and will be looking for a new home shortly. He is a little shy at first but as you can hear when he warms up to you he has a purr that can shake the room. We absolutely love getting to spend quality time with your pets and help them adjust during their visits.

Hello Everyone, we hope you're all staying safe during this time. We were thinking about doing something like this video, but the Staff at Sanford Animal Hospital really took the cake, going above and beyond. We ask that you take a few minutes to watch through to the end as it touches on some scenarios that many of you - clients and staff - have probably experienced since the pandemic outbreak. We appreciate all the continuous support and co-operation from many as we all take things day-by-day.
