A great Day 1 of 2 of training put on by Prepare4. Thanks to Port Hardy Fire Rescue for hosting this event. 25 firefighters are giving up their weekend to get better at providing fire protection for Sointula, Port Alice, Hyde Creek and Port Hardy.

Good Evening BCFTOA Family. In partnership with Island, Health, the host City Parksville, and your Executive we have made the tough decision to change the Annu...al Conference to a Virtual Platform for 2021. I think I can speak for everyone that it is certainly not our first choice but the health and safety or our communities continues to be our top priority. This starts with you and your families at home and at the firehalls across the Province. The challenge of providing a good quality on-line event is one that myself and the rest of the executive take on with great enthusiasm. It will still have that TO feel to it once we roll out more details. The one item I can share is the dates for this year’s events and they are the same as we had planned prior. May 15 through the 20th we will gather virtually to network, share ideas, successes, and areas to improve. Maybe have a beverage or two? We are already mindful of your commitments to your families at home and to your firefighters so the schedule will reflect that. It will be dramatically different than anything you are accustomed in order to accomplish that Please stay tuned to the FB page and to your zone reps for more information and if you have any questions please email [email protected] Thank you for being a part of this tremendous group, Warmest Regards, Brian Ulle 1st Vice President British Columbia Fire Training Officers Association 604 340-5213

Hyde Creek VFD, Port McNeill Fire Rescue and RCMP gave a huge North Island welcome to firefighter Dwayne Buckle who has walked from Red Deer Alberta enroute to Port Hardy. Dwayne is walking to raise money for the fight against cancer. Donate if you can. Here's the link for his journey https://www.facebook.com/Hikeforthecure2020

Covid has been here for 9+ months now....and winter is looming. Mental health issues related to our lock down and the pandemic are especially hard for people with depression and other mental health disorders. NAMI, The National Alliance on Mental Illness has a 24-hour helpline: 800-950-NAMI. The relapse and overdose rate has increased by 30% since March 2020. You’re not alone in this please reach out for help.

Lastnight Port McNeill and Hyde Creek fire departments did a joint practice simulating a structure fire at the Port McNeill fire hall. With Hyde Creek only min...utes away, its very beneficial and important to have a great working relationship. Having each other's backs and knowing that we can count on each other is important in helping to protect our communities. Depending on the nature and size of the fire, Port Hardy fire would also be called in for mutual aid. See more
