Happy spring! We’re kicking it off with an asparagus feast! Oven-roasted (olive oil, salt and pepper) and topped with a sprinkle of nutritional yeast and a squeeze of lemon. Nice light flavours to welcome the lighter, warmer days ahead!

International Women's Day Today is International Women's Day, and as a female-led business with all-female practitioners, it's a day we honour! While the pandemic has been difficult for everyone, many women, as primary caregivers, have experienced additional stress and tension in the last twelve months. More than ever, it's important to focus on self-care and on nourishing your body and mind to continue to persevere as we transition to the next phase of the new normal. Today, and every day, we celebrate all that women are capable of, with hope for continued progress toward a more inclusive world, filled with female leaders! Happy Women's Day!

What is serotonin? Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that supports positive mood, memory, and sleep. It also is a regulator of our immune and digestive systems. If deficient, it can contribute to depression and anxiety. There are many foods that can support healthy serotonin levels including poultry, eggs, salmon, quinoa, and nuts and seeds. These foods are high in tryptophan that converts into serotonin in the brain.

Halloween is creeping up. Follow these tips from BCDC for staying spooky and safe on this full blue moon evening For the kids | Trick-or-treating can be done safely by following these tips: - Respect homes by staying away if the lights are out. - Keep to your local neighbourhood this year.... - Avoid trick-or-treating in busy areas or indoors (in places like malls) since there may not be enough space to distance. - Indoor spaces may require a non-medical mask or face covering. - Trick-or-treat in a small social group, stick to six people. - Leave space between you and other groups to reduce crowding on stairs and sidewalks. - Wash your hands before you go out, when you get home, and before eating treats. - Keep hand sanitizer with you if eating treats on the go. - You don’t need to clean every treat. You should instead wash your hands after handling treats and not touch your face. For the adults | Skip Halloween parties this year Leave the parties behind. - Indoor gatherings, big or small, put people at higher risk of getting COVID-19. - Celebrate with your favourite Halloween movie or other traditions that you can do with your household or social group. - If you celebrate with others, keep it within your social group (stick to your safe six). - You should know everyone who attends, no plus ones. - Don’t pass around snacks, drinks, smokes, tokes, and vapes - Be more outside, than inside. Keep your space well-ventilated with windows open. - Avoid using props that can cause coughing, such as smoke machines. - Be careful with hand sanitizer and open flames - hand sanitizer is very flammable!

Change of Season Soup Webinar Come and learn how to make Change of Season soup, during this interactive, virtual cooking session with Dr. Katia De Marco, ND. It's getting to be that time of the year when the nights are feeling a little bit chillier, warm pumpkin spice lattes fill our thermoses, and big, wooly sweaters are taken out of storage. With these changes, however, also come to the not-so-wanted sniffles, coughs, colds, and flu. Fortunately, there are many things we c...an do right from our kitchens to help support the immune systems, and one such thing is a traditional Chinese herbal recipe called Change of Season Soup. During this webinar, we will be making the soup together as you learn about the traditional herbs used in this recipe, and a bit about Traditional Chinese Medicine theory for keeping healthy during the coming colder months. Date: Oct. 7th at 1pm PST Length: 1.5 hours Cost: $30 for webinar and herbs needed (enough to make soup twice) $15 for the webinar only Book now at https://hydrateiv.janeapp.com/ Once you have registered, you will receive an email with more details on how to pick-up your herbs, Zoom log in info, and what you will need on hand for your cooking session Happy fall!

This simple turmeric tonic from Minimalist Baker is a great way to get ready for the cooler months ahead. It's a comforting warm cup when you have a cold, can help detoxify the body, and help you relax before bed. Ingredients 1 Tbsp fresh grated turmeric (1/2 tsp ground, though fresh is best) 1 Tbsp fresh grated ginger (1/2 tsp ground, though fresh is best)... 1 whole lemon (juiced // ~3 Tbsp or 45 ml juice // plus leftover rind) 1-2 tsp maple syrup (optional // can sub stevia or raw honey if not vegan) 1 pinch cayenne pepper (optional // or cracked black pepper) 3 cups filtered water Instructions To a small saucepan, add turmeric, ginger, lemon juice and leftover lemon rind, maple syrup (optional), cayenne (optional), and filtered water. I personally didn’t think it needed any sweetener, but sweeten to taste. Bring to a simmer (not a boil) over medium to medium-high heat (~3 minutes). Then turn off heat. Set a small strainer over serving glasses and divide between two mugs. Enjoy. If the tonic is too potent for you, dilute with more hot/warm water. Store (strained) leftovers in the refrigerator up to 2-3 days. Reheat on the stovetop until just warm.
