With the stylistic and cultural diversity of young artistic creators at the peak of their game, this poetic reading explores sadness, strangeness, and loss. My #MiniReview of #Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (German: Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens); a 1922 silent German Expressionist horror film directed by F. W. Murnau. It stars Max Schreck as Count Orlok, a vampire with an interest in both a new residence and Elle, the wife (Greta Schröder) of his estate agent Hans (Gustav von Wangenheim). The film is an unauthorized and unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel #Dracula. (Source Wikipedia)... The film is mostly shot in shadows; adding to the sense of dread we experience throughout it. Murnau is credited with creating what is now called a #montage and now used widely in film. It's very effective in this film. I have seen it several times and I always find things to like... From Schreck & Schröder's performances, to the music by Hans Erdmann. This quote by #RogerEbert summarizes lots of what I think of the film: "In a sense, Murnau's film is about all of the things we worry about at 3 in the morning--cancer, war, disease, madness. It suggests these dark fears in the very style of its visuals." Also recommend watching #WernerHerzog's adaptation Nosferatu: The Vampyre (1979) starring Klaus Kinski in the title role & Isabelle Adjani.
