The viability review and referendum has been completed. The Village of Hythe will be dissolved, and assume a governance role as a Hamlet in the County of Grande Prairie No. 1 Moving forward with the plan to dissolve the village will impact the Hythe Fire Department, as the fire chief reports directly to the village council. With the decision to dissolve the village in its final stages, this leaves the management and administration of the department in question. ... We will be working closely with out partners at the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service to better understand what changes will be made to the fire service in the area as a result of this decision. Please be aware that even though the administrative and governance models for the fire department may possibly be changing, the level of service that the fire department delivers to the region will not be degraded. The department was established by members of the community almost 100 years ago, and will continue to remain a constant establishment in the region so long as the need exists.

Our siren testing & repair of the sirens is complete. Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding. The sirens are still very important, in situations like last summer when we lost all cell phone service to the west county. It was the only means of notifying our members to respond to emergencies.

We are currently testing the air raid sirens to ensure they are both working properly.

We will be running a quick test on our air raid sirens. It is only a test.

Unfortunately the department will not be handing out candy, or putting on any social function this year for Halloween. COVID-19 precautions have to be taken into serious consideration on behalf of our Firefighters, in order to remain at the ready to assist residents of the Village of Hythe and surrounding residents. That being said, a small number of our members have decided to spend Halloween on standby at the Firehall in case the need arises for assistance during the eveni...ng. We urge anyone who has a need for our services to please call 911 if it is an emergency. For non-emergency situations, please contact Deputy Chief Fisher at 1-780-897-0788, or simply send us a message through this Facebook page. We wish all our little ghosts and goblins a safe and spooky Halloween!

Safe Kitchen Safety There is about 24,000 house fires each year in Canada and the number one cause of house fires is cooking. Make sure that you stay in the room while you are cooking with a heat source. Be sure to always have a fire extinguisher in your kitchen and know how to use it. There are different types of fires such as grease and electric fires. Suffocating the fire by removing air is the best way to put most fires.... -Never put grease or electric fires out with water. -Use baking soda or put a pan to cover. What to do if there is a fire in the kitchen? If the fire is small, cover the pan with a lid. Throw lots of baking soda on it. Never use flour, which can explode or make the fire worse. If you have a fire in the oven or the microwave, close the door or keep it closed. if the fire is spreading and you can’t control it, get everyone out of the house and call 911! Make sure everyone in your family knows how to get out of the house safely in case of a fire. Practice your fire escape route.

This evening a team from the department took part in an entry level Large Animal Rescue course which was conducted by the La Glace Fire Department. For many Firefighters this is type of training rarely happens, and proves to be beneficial in understanding the best methods for handling large herd animals in a safe manner.
