This is one of the prettiest drinks weve seen the Violet Margarita prepared by the Black Dog Pub & Bistro in Bayfield, Ontario. It features colour-changing violet tea and an Iceculture Craft Ice Sphere. The Black Dog is closed for now but looking forward to opening up as soon as its safe and spending the time creating new ideas for their summer cocktail menu. We cant wait for patio season!

Bar Ice Samui was one of Icecultures earlier lounge builds (the first being 2005 in Toronto) and for many of us, one of our favourites. The hospitality of this island of just over 50,000 in 2008, was unmatched as was its beauty. The ice was shipped from Hensall, ON to Koh Samui via mainland Thailand in two refrigerated containers. The containers were dropped outside a small building that housed the freezer and blocks were brought in by hand one at a time. This lounge wa...s an early build and the walls were built in layers of 9.5in ice to mimic the look of brick. Now we build in larger blocks for a more efficient install. The display incorporated ice walls, a Tuk Tuk that guests could sit in for a photo, A family of elephants carved in relief in the back wall, multiple Sawadee Statues, cruiser tables with orchids suspended inside the ice and a full ice Bar and back bar with shelving for product, that accented the Thai theme including orchids and palm leaves, to add colour into the display. It also featured a hand-painted portrait of a young King and Queen of Thailand, which our team took painstaking efforts to make as accurate as possible to ensure it was positively received. A team of 6, travelled to Thailand for the install and took full advantage of the experience. #TBT is a time to reflect and share memories this one brings smiles from us all.

Cate has been part of the Iceculture team for more than 13 years. She is our Lead CNC programmer and a talented designer and ice carver. Cate loves coming up with fresh ideas and being a part of bringing them to life. When asked to name a few favorites; her eyes light up excitedly and she laughs, there is just too many! Highly detailed colored portraits that sometimes take a week to program, to the textures used on a winter throne, to simple snow filled logos. Admittedly, I like the big sculptures that are set up in the freezer for a while; watching them transform from plain blocks to something entertaining or interactive like out tiki hut. #talented #icesculpture #oneofthebest #iceculture #teamwork

In 2007, Iceculture built the Chill Out Ice Lounge in Dubai, UAE. Iceculture was honoured to receive a Star Award from Canadian Special Events for Outstanding Logistical Achievement for the plans required to create, ship and install this permanent ice lounge in Dubai. Each refer container contained 49,500lbs of carved, crystal clear ice. Due to challenges with the freezer construction, the containers sat in the dock in Dubai for more than 30 days we worried about being ...greeted by containers full of water when we were given the all clear to build. Alas, our Iceculture team embarked on a fabulous adventure to the dessert city, Dubai. On arrival, the ice was just fine but we were greeted with another hurdle; the loading docks of this mall, were 3 ft too low to receive the containers. Each box (400 all together) were off-loaded by hand (p.s. an ice block weighs 275lbs). At long last the 7 day construction of the worlds largest permanent, indoor ice lounge, Chill Out, began. There are many more install stories but our adventure included scouring the markets for colourful spices to incorporate into our display, camel rides and four-wheeling on dessert dunes as well as the wonderful hospitality of our hosts who have become valued colleagues. A fabulous memory of team work. We did return a few years later for a rebuild to work with local teams and local ice. It is inevitable that by taking on new challenges, one inspires the continuation of work with local artists and businesses and though this is competition, it has also afforded us new gratifying relationships.
