Iceland ranks second in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2020 Democracy Index The five Nordic countries, all ranked in the top seven places of the index, with Norway, Iceland and Sweden in top three places. To quote the index report The Nordics are kings of the rankings. The Embassy of Iceland would like to congratulate it’s Nordic partners as well as Canada that ranked number five. The Economist Intelligence Unit studied 165 independent states for it’s 2020 Democracy Index. The index is based on five categories: Electoral process and pluralism, the functioning of government, political participation, political culture, and civil liberties.
