Here is a question we received about pacing yourself when enrolled in a course bundle: Hi Maureen, I signed up for the bundle deal on the fundamentals of cranial and treating the obstetric patient a few weeks ago, and I was just wondering whether the course had to be completed in the 10 weeks from the start date, or if it is more flexible and I would be able to complete it by the end of January or February. ...Continue reading

Some students have asked what kind of feedback do I write on a students homework assignments and why does it take a few weeks from the time they correctly submit all of their assignments before they receive all my feedback and their Certificates. I think there is the assumption that we automatically award Certificates without much effort or expectation, so I thought that sharing this might shed some light on why it's worth the wait! Here is an example for a student who rece...Continue reading

Here is a question we received from a student who is working her way through the Level 1 Introduction to the Fundamentals of Cranial Osteopathy: Understanding the Cranial Mechanism online course: "Hi Maureen, As I have been going through the intro to cranial course, a couple of questions have popped up that I was hoping you could assist me with... In chapter 3, you went through the V-spread technique for the sagittal suture, what would the hand hold be for the other sutures for this technique? It seems to be awkward for hand placement Thanks! S. K." My reply: "There are more advanced techniques used in protocols when treating other regions of the cranium, and treating the adjacent sutures are part of that protocol, but they are more difficult techniques to perform and they require the Practitioner to have mastered the palpation of everything that is taught in this course as well as the ability to diagnose Cranial Patterns of Dysfunction. One cannot hope to learn a technique until one knows when and when it is appropriate to administer it. The V-Spread technique as applied to the Sagittal Suture is a basic technique that can be incorporated into a basic treatment protocol. This being an Introduction to the Fundamentals of Cranial Osteopathy course, teaching suture decompaction techniques that should be administered in more complex cases was not within the scope of this course. To give you some perspective, this is a Level 1 crash course and part of a 100 hour Certification program, whereby the program has Level 2 and Level 3, followed by a series of Advanced Cranial Pathologies courses. The Level 1 is the first that has been made available online for students who need to review the basics and do not have access to a live course in their area. It is by no means a complete overview of Cranial Osteopathy, which takes much more study to master. I hope this answers your question :-) Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or thoughts you wish to discuss." https://ceosteopathy.thinkific.com/cours/cranial-osteopathy ARE YOU MISSING THE FUNDAMENTALS OF CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY IN YOUR TRAINING? New online course starts w...eek of May 4th, 2020. This course is for Practitioners who have never studied the tangible, BIOMECHANICAL MODEL of Cranial Osteopathy, and wish to take a more structured, anatomical approach to their treatments. Practitioners who had only a cursory or brief overview of Cranial Osteopathy during their training would also benefit from taking this course. For those Practitioners who have experience with the more energetic forms of CranioSacral Treatment, such as Uppledger's CranioSacral or the Biodynamic Model are beneficial when seeking a more diffuse and energetic approach to healing, but when you encounter specific conditions such as Congestion Headaches, Vertigo, Sinusitis, Trigeminal Neuralgia, or Upper Cervical Misalignments related to dysfunctions within the anatomical functioning of the Cranial Mechanism, learning how to treat the Cranium from a more concrete biomechanical perspective will provide more tangible and predictable results within your treatments. Students who have trained and even mastered these more energetic approaches will benefit greatly from this course, as it will round out and complete your education and understanding of the Cranium. For those if you who are wondering about who to chose for your practice models in order to fulfill your homework assignments, this question I received from a student related to our Female Pelvic Health online course: "As seen with the pandemic, you have decided to extend the deadline to end of June to be able to practice homework on (patient in clinic or other option). Obviously, as osteopaths have been told to stay at home during this time, I am left to practice only on one ...family member (mother) as it is the only option I have at the moment so I may not be able to see anyone else during this time or work on different models. Would that be enough to complete and submit the homework protocols at the appropriate time?" My reply: "...The homework assignments are best practiced upon women with a Urogenital history. If you chose to practice on someone whose history or symptoms are not pertinent, you will not get as much out of your practice component of the course. How successfully you complete your submitted homework assignments will be shared with by me in the feedback I will send, so I will only know if practicing on your mother was sufficient for you once I have received and can actually review your homework. As you progress through the chapters and eventually access the homework downloads and review them, you can interview your mother to determine if she is a suitable candidate. Since every region is different and timelines to resume normal social interaction might vary in upcoming weeks, I would suggest that you assess who your potential models might be when you come to the homework chapters. In other words, cross that bridge when you get to it :-) Also you didn't mention what city you are located in, so I cannot really provide further insight than this at the moment. Some Practitioners anticipate resuming clinical work by mid-May while in other other regions there might be a longer delay."
