Update : On their journey to establishing a bioreactor project that incorporates a highly efficient PETase enzyme, the WL has modified a few of their plans with the introduction of new tools such as: Rosetta, FoldX, and ABACUS. These tools will ultimately help them create appropriately functioning and folding enzymes, while relaying data to the Dry Lab for their neural networks project. #igem #toronto #synbio @ iGEM Toronto

Plastic waste is a detrimental problem to our planet and everyone contributes to it. To encourage individuals to reduce their plastic waste footprint, the HP team is bringing out the creativity with a community wellness challenge: the best upcycled product generated from plastic waste will win. This challenge addresses the community and education facets of HP’s projects. @ iGEM Toronto

The Wet Lab’s final stage of the project includes designing a cost-effective bioreactor that can maximize the purified product yield as well as support the optimal efficacy of microbial degradation. In the future, this bioreactor can be used in industrial circular economies to degrade and obtain PET byproducts for further renewable use. #wetlab #synbio #iGEM #bioreactor @ iGEM Toronto

For their final phase, the Dry Lab aims to develop an effective inhibitor using predictive machine translational models for the novel coronavirus protein, as an attempt to provide a potential solution for this pandemic. By working alongside the HP economics team, they hope to keep economic feasibility in mind as they generate various PETase and inhibitor variants. #iGEM #uoft #drylab @ iGEM Toronto

The HP team will encourage community engagement to highlight the extent of the textile industry’s impact on the plastic problem. Through community education, the team hopes to direct people’s attention to alternative actions that will reduce their plastic waste footprints. #humanpractices #iGEM @ iGEM Toronto
