Hey! Miss Dana here with a story. ... Thanksgiving weekend has left me feeling very full! And not just my belly but my heart too! And I’m feeling compelled to share a special story with the dance families that have been a part of my IGNITE journey. I have been building IGNITE Dance Studios for the last 5 years. But you may not know WHY I opened up in the first place. Well! It’s about time I share Dance was introduced into my life when I was pretty young. I took my first ballet class when I was 5 years old by following in the footsteps of my older sister. I personally, was hooked right away. I have a lot of fond memories of my sister and I packing up our bags and walking to dance class togethermaking up dances in the basementand performing at family gatherings. I came from a hard working family so I always felt especially grateful that my parents ensured I never missed a beat with my dancing. Fast forward 6 years and tragedy struck. My dad suffered from a stroke and he was gone less than a week later. It wouldn’t be too dramatic to say that a bomb went off in my family. My mother, brother, sister and myself were all immensely struck by grief and loss. My mom had arranged for all of us to see a counsellor/therapist during this time. I would go but, I didn’t really like going because I never really knew what to say. It’s challenging for poets to find the words to describe loss and pain. Never mind being an 11 year old girl and forming the words. The only place I ever really wanted to be was in my dance classes. I suppose at first it was my escape from the challenges I was going through It was a place I could focus on myself, pump endorphins through my body and express myself without having to put words to it. Because some of the things I was feeling were seriously too big for words! Over time, I learned to channel my emotions into my dancing. This became extremely therapeutic for me. As I grew as a dancer and artist I learned it was a way to tell stories. The first grief story I ever performed was probably my 14 year old lyrical solo to "Promise" by Tracy Chapman. My healing began when I started telling my story. Dance had such a huge impact on how I overcame many obstacles in my life. The dance studio was a stable place for me when home life felt chaotic. Dance was my therapy. Dance still is my therapy. I’m here because if my dance studio can impact ONE person the way my dance journey impacted me, I know my life will have incredible meaning. I have immense gratitude to anyone and everyone that shows up to class to work on themselves. To step out of their comfort zone. To hone their craft. To honour their ability to move and create. Thank you for being here so I can live in my passion every day. My heart is so full and grateful. Ignite Curiousity, Ignite Spirit, Ignite Passion! Life is too short to live any other way! Miss Dana

TEACHER FEATURE Miss Steph Steph has been dancing her whole life - the one picture is from when she was 3 years old!!! Her favourite style is tap, and thanks to dance was a magicians assistant in college.... Steph is always busy working, as an interior designer or dance teacher. Somehow, she still manages to find time to be outdoors. And to die her hair; Steph can tell what year a dance number is from in photos based on the colour of her hair! We are very lucky that Steph has found the time for IGNITE in her busy life.

Let your child be active and having fun in an IGNITE Summer program. We have 8 week programs for ages 3 & up on Wednesdays! Please inquire about class times. SUMMER CAMPS... AGES 6 to 9 July 8th to 12th and/or August 12th to 16th Mornings will include Stretch, Ballet, Lyrical and Jazz. Afternoons will be filled with Musical Theatre, Tap and Hip Hop. Creative games, activities and some outdoor play included throughout. Full Day or Half Day options available $165 to $325 AGES 10 & UP July 15th to 19th - 9am to 12pm A musical theatre camp where we take 3 routines from a popular musical and create our own production.
