Shubenacadie Sam makes the prediction for 2021 virtually!

The In-Situ Egg Incubation Team has been spending the last 10 weeks monitoring their salmon redds to ensure basket condition and the 5,400 eggs are being well sheltered. They’ve experienced the full fluvial phenology, (How the river changes seasonally) from frazil ice floating downstream to high and low winter water levels!

Earlier this month, the ibof salmon incubation team was back at it again, and have since planted 5,400 salmon eggs! Eggs were planted over the Chiganois River, Portapique River, and Staples Brook. Last year, the team only used PVC pipe for the incubation baskets. The team decided that they wanted to compare PVC to wooden baskets this year, to see if a more natural interface would improve survivability!
