#italianowednesday this week brings an expression that doesn't have a real equivalent in English (or at least I couldn't find it), It's a sort of "why am I not surprised?" but better :)

Ikigai Translations 08.09.2020

I've tried to post this for two days but for some reasons Facebook wouldn't let me publish... So this week we have an #italianofriday! As requested, today's expression is food-related and, for once, it's something nice :D

It's Friday and Power Point preparations are in full swing... I'm teaching my first webinar ever (and possibly the last) on Wednesday I'll be talking about translation tips and tools for the travel industry. In case you were wondering... yes, I am terrified. Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

The last #italianowednesdays have been quite serious, so this week we're going back to one of those useful expressions that will help you make friends in Italy... or maybe not.

Sorry for abandoning you, Facebook folks! Northern Ireland was incredible, I walked for kilometers and kilometers in complete amazement at how incredibly beautiful nature is. Some highlights include: that time when I missed the last bus to deliver an urgent project from a park and I had to hitchhike my way to the hostel (*rescued by a creepy old man*), or that time when in the middle of nowhere I met an American girl who's going to apply to the Italian university I studied at, or that time when I found a ticket to see Ed Sheeran at Wembley just 2 hours before the show started and I had to revised a project from my phone while the first band of the night was already playing. Work/travel balance can be hard sometimes! My jetlagged self is ready to start posting a bit more consistently again, thanks for your patience :)

It's #travelfriday and today, after 3 long months, I'm actually travelling! After one day in Calgary and one day in London, I'll be walking (and working) around Northern Ireland for 10 days. Last year you liked the Canadian travel diary, so maybe I'll document this one too :)

Mi raccomando, leave your suggestions and comments for #italianowednesday below!

It's #italianowednesday! This week we take a break from our weird expressions and we go back to something more useful. "Ormai", kindly suggested by Manuel, is a tricky one! We use it a lot, but it's quite hard to explain how to use it correctly. If you have questions about it or if you can explain it better than I did in this slide, don't hesitate to comment below

Late #motivationmonday because this morning I lacked the motivation to post about motivation. Anyway, it's here and it's valid for the rest of the week :)

#travelfriday stays in Mexico, this time with a brief guide to some of the best cenotes in the Yucatan peninsula. Have you been to any of them?

Ikigai Translations 03.04.2020

#italianowednesday brings you today your monthly dose of "things you probably shouldn't say if you want to make friends, but that you should know anyway, so that you can react accordingly when you're bullied in Italian instead of smiling awkwardly"

It's GDPR Friday, aka Doom's Day, aka hopefully the end of two months of translating boring privacy policies. Cheers to a new era of fewer random newsletters with a cup of tea (It's still 9am here after all)

Ikigai Translations 23.02.2020

Since you liked last week's expression, I chose another curious expression for this week's #italianowednesday. :) Other versions involve different means of transport and/or other members of the family, but the meaning stays the same. Do you have an equivalent in your language?

#motivationmonday wants you to travel more :)

Yesterday I went to the opening of a wonderful exhibition about the Art of Resistance in Latin America and it was so inspiring to see the beautiful creations and colors, and the joy of these artists despite the hardships they had to go through. There's so much to learn from other cultures! So today's #travelfriday brings us closer to that reality (even if Mexico is technically in North America). :)

#italianowednesday today encourages you to spend your time wisely and leave your dolls at home

Today's word, kindly suggested by Cate Cianca, is a difficult one to master. Magari has a bunch of different meanings, depending on the situation: 1. A wish very unlikely to come true. - Are you going to Hawaii soon? Magari! (= I wish, but unfortunately it's not gonna happen). 2. Regret for something I wish I had or hadn't done. - Magari fossi andata alle Hawaii! (I wish I had gone to Hawaii that time when I had the chance).... 3. Maybe (sometimes with a slight sense of hope) Magari later we can go for a walk together (I hope we can) 4. Enthusiastic reply to someone's offer. - I'm buying some sushi on my way back, do you want some too? Magari!! (Yes please!) #italianowednesday See more

Today's #motivationmonday is a concept I tend to forget quite often. In the last month or so, I've been trying to focus my marketing efforts on direct clients in my fields of specialization. It's been difficult and frustrating, because I want tangible results yesterday, but these things require patience, consistency, trial and error. I guess I'll have to enjoy the journey more and celebrate the small wins along the way. And you? Are you focused on the journey or on the goal?

#travelfriday is back, after a short hiatus. After a lot of posts about Japan, we're crossing the Pacific Ocean to land in Canada, my adoptive country. :)

Ikigai Translations 02.12.2019

#italianowednesday is here! Today's sentence is nothing untranslatable or extravagant. But I like the fact that in Italian the focus is on the person "whos missed" instead of on the person who misses.

No Labour Day on this side of the pond, so #motivationmonday is here as usual :)

Oggi interrompo le regolari trasmissioni per segnalare l'uscita di aprile della Rivista CELG! In questo numero parliamo di cinema, storia, distributori automatici, hanami, yokai, manga (con un mio personalissimo contributo) e molto altro :) Buona lettura e buon weekend!

#motivationmonday (and I really need it today, considering how long my to-do list is). Have a lovely week everyone!

Ikigai Translations 04.10.2019

We're taking it to the next level this week, with a word very specific to my region. It's NOT in the Italian dictionary (but it should be, if you ask me). It describes someone who wears shabby clothes, usually rather old and baggy, and often randomly matched.

Last #travelfriday about Japan for a while. 2 fun and inexpensive day trips from Kobe :)

Ikigai Translations 17.09.2019

This is a difficult one to master, but it's extremely useful in everyday life as it can be used in a wide variety of situations. Together with "boh", it's one of the expressions I accidentally use in English conversations (mostly getting confused looks in return).

#travelfriday brings us today to Hiroshima! The A-Bomb museum is a must-see in town: such a powerful experience!

Ikigai Translations 20.08.2019

We're talking about feelings today and this is a great one. Some of its benefits include: - No confusion or awkward misunderstandings; - Allows you to avoid the big L word (or A word in Italian), which can be quite daunting for people who are bad at expressing their feelings (like yours truly); - Makes it much easier to friendzone someone. Take notes, my friends.
