Good morning, Like everyone else this morning, I read the latest RCDSO update. Not too much "new" but perhaps this was a hint that we may be heading back to our work spaces soon. Let's hope so. Saskatchewan is suggesting a return to work for dentists, BC is too. Fingers crossed. In the background at IDL we are continuing our quest to source and/or manufacture what we project to be mandated PPE for dental practices. It's a delicate balance as we do not want to interrupt a...ny front-line supply yet we need to do what we can to prepare ourselves, our clients and your patients for a return to practice. As soon as I have specific details as to how or if we can help, I will advise. In the coming weeks I will be hosting several small Zoom conferences to help our lab understand the struggles you are facing and any concerns you may have. If you are interested in being included, please drop me an email. I've also included the latest update from HRPAR should this be of interest. Distanced but very much together, Kev

Precision printers like the ones used for dentistry are not workhorses. They are slow and finicky but when you've mastered them like James and Matt at IDL have, you can make them do almost anything. There are still many holes to fill in the Face-Shield supply chain so IDL has 5 printers, printing 18 hours a day to help however we can. Here is Alicia from Barrie Police Services receiving our first donation to Barrie's boys and girls in blue. #covid19 #covidontario #covidppe

Hi everyone, Ive never felt this way before. With the long-weekend behind me, its good to be back at work. Except there is not much work to do. All of my long weekend projects are complete - windows cleaned, lawn thatched, hedges trimmed and now I find myself scratching around trying to find some meaningful lab work to fill my days. The Easter weekend (though different) was as nice as ever. As a family we made a concerted effort to limit our consumption of social media a...nd news over the three days. We gave our minds a rest, trusted in our isolation and in the spirit of the season we gave ourselves over to hope. We filled our days with euchre, paints, music and baking and remembered that not too long ago we could only dream of a weekend with nothing to do except enjoy the gift of uninterrupted family and peace. Someone told me recently to stop looking for the light at the end of the tunnel and just enjoy the tunnel. So we did and I hope you did too. On Friday, our friends at HRPar provided another FastFacts bulletin that I have attached for your reference. I hope you find these as useful as we do. Holding fast to the recommendations of our (and your) governing bodies, Image remains closed except for emergencies and the shields we are producing. When attending the lab (one person at a time) we have a very strict safety protocol in place for our employees. Now entering the fourth week of shutdown, we are starting to see a few real emergencies - as expected. If you encounter any of these in your practice be sure to let us know as we will open the doors for your cases when necessary. Finally, on top of all the bread and cookies, I have been eating webinars, zoom meetings and conference calls daily. I enjoy them because they satisfy my need to feel connected with whats happening in my industry, with my friends and my colleagues. Dental Community Resource https://dentalcommunity.ca/ has a particularly valuable meeting each Tuesday afternoon at 2pm. At each one I have joined thus far they have enjoyed well over 100 dentists attending who share their ideas and pose questions that require thoughtful consideration at a time like this. You must register in advance at the link provided below: https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSdXwagUdCWFoqSrAe/viewform After registering you will receive an email invitation. Hope to see you there! To those of you who have been forwarding emails, articles, goodwill stories and encouragement, thank you. We share them with our team and we all appreciate hearing from you. Closing another message with stay safe seems kind of hollow at this point in our journey. Lets try this instead... be well. We miss you. Kev

Friends and partners, As you may have guessed, due to Ministry of Health, Health Canada, RCDSO and CDTO recommendations Image Dental remains closed as we do all we can to help support our communities and "flatten the curve". Remotely and individually however, your team at IDL is actively working with industry leaders and local manufacturers to lend whatever manufacturing support we can in the battle against this virus. This week we will start donating our face-shields to fr...ontline workers throughout our region. Though many large manufacturers have started producing these, it has become apparent that there are significant gaps in the supply chain and even small producers like IDL can help to fill these voids. Once the front line needs have been satisfied, we intend to keep manufacturing and stockpile shields for your use should you and your teams be required to use them once your doors open again. If you have friends or family working at or near the front lines of this crisis please know we are doing everything we can think of to help. Although our doors are closed, we're still here for you. If you have an emergency that you need help with, we can make the necessary arrangements. If you would like to discuss a case in progress to plan for when you return to practice, just call: Crystal (705) 718-5590 Gord (249) 288-3338 Kerrie (705) 795-5773 They would welcome any opportunity to discuss a case with you. On behalf of everyone at IDL, we wish you, your family and your work family well during this very challenging time. Although we are distanced we are very much together. Kevin

Barrie's Image Dental Laboratory making ace shields and respirator adapters. They all seem difficult lately but March 20th was a particularly challenging day for Ali Khonsari. March 20th was the day he had to advise his friends and colleagues at Image Dental Laboratory that lay-offs were imminent as a result of Covid-19. The risk to public health together with the recommendations set forth by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario had dashed all hopes of coming out o...f this unscathed. That was until the drive home at about 5:30 that night. I heard Carol Off on CBC interview Dr Tarek Loubani who was already hard at work designing and printing prototype face shields for front line workers and immediately thought we can do that too! IDL had spent the preceding five years digitizing their dental manufacturing business to compensate for a shortage in skilled workers in that industry. Our learning curve as we digitized was very, very long - everything has to be perfect in Dental. We had learned so much over that period of time I knew we had the right people to help us repurpose and start producing. By Saturday morning, James Bliss (his Computer Aided Design Specialist) was back in the lab test printing face shields and respirator adapters. Its a long process getting regulatory approval so I called on James then contacted Georgian College, RVH and the local manufacturing community to share some ideas. None of these prototypes are approved for use YET but when they give us the nod, we know now that we will be ready to pull the trigger. No stranger to entrepreneurial thought, Khonsari has been on the Dragons Den THREE times. One important lesson I learned on the Dragons Den was about thinking big. If you think youve thought big enough, you havent. It can always be bigger. With that in mind, IDL has already reached out for manufacturing support worldwide from contacts he made in his Dragons Den days. We anticipate a tremendous increase in demand for Personal Protective Equipment even after the immediate threat of Covid-19 dies down. Our lab has to do everything we can to get our employees back to work fast and that means ensuring our dentist partners and their teams are properly protected in order to start sending us work again. Were looking at ways to provide our clinical partners with what they need to do just that - get back to work and get back to work safely. The way I see our community rallying around our front-line workers tells me that together, weve got what it takes to get through this. So much so, Im already thinking about recovery strategies. This isnt about greed. Its about doing something instead of doing nothing - and its about hope. In a crisis like this, hope? Its our fuel.

To all friends and clients of IDL, As we enter day five of physical distancing (we closed the doors for all but emergencies last Friday), many of us are finding it particularly frustrating to be in a position where we can merely watch and not act as this health crisis unfolds. Yesterday I gave myself a break from all social media (except Pluto https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiBYw3bDFro ) and the Prime Ministers daily address. When I awoke this morning, the sun came up, y...esterday's news was waiting for me and so was my country as it prepared itself for a win. This was a welcomed break and I valued the little bit of control it returned to me. Tomorrow, I might vacation again. How about some GOOD news? Within hours of closing the doors at IDL I started hearing about our industry repurposing itself as it prepared for this fight. I had emails from suppliers and clients alike commiserating on how we could best support our front-line workers as they faced a potential shortage in personal protective equipment (PPE). By Sunday we had re-programmed our printers and had a face shield prototype ready for approval. On Monday, the team was working on design adjustments that would enable us to scale up production. In addition to this we are test printing multi-port venturi valve prototypes for the hospitals evaluation should the need for these respirator adaptors become necessary. As we work in collaboration with our partners at Georgian College and other local businesses the collective effort is delivering more than solutions, its bringing us all some much needed hope. Were in this together and together we will prevail. Finally, I think we can all agree that the recommendations we have been receiving from our governing bodies are pretty clear. Emergencies only. Now that essential service guidelines are in place as well, we have an even greater responsibility to do everything we can to limit any potential for spreading this virus. I am available by cell or email anytime should an emergency arise. Together with Crystal, Gord and Ali, IDL will evaluate and triage all requests for service as they come in and if deemed absolutely essential, will establish a production plan. I hope you are all finding some peace amidst this calamity. Lets stay healthy, stay distanced but lets stay very much together. Kev [email protected] Office: 705-726-6301 Cell: 705-717-6306

Hi everyone, In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us are facing new HR, ESA and Health and Safety challenges that require focussed thought and quick, decisive action. Many friends and business colleagues have been sharing with me their best practices and strategies as together we address the myriad announcements and changes we are confronting daily. ... For years, our go-to resource at IDL has been the team at HRPAR. As their client, we have started receiving Fast-Fact Updates that are easy to read and understand. With their approval, I will be sharing these with you in the hopes that you find them as valuable as I do. Physically distanced but very much together, Kev

COVID-19 update To our friends and partners, Like all clinics and dental labs across the nation, IDL has been navigating the uncharted COVID-19 waters for several days now. We have found ourselves changing course sometimes hour by hour. Today we feel confident in announcing our decision on how we can best move forward as we consider the health and safety of our employees, clinical partners, your patients and our community as a whole.... In an effort to help control the spread of the COVID-19 virus and in consideration of RCDSO, ADTO, DAO and Health Canada recommendations, we have elected to close our laboratory effective Friday March 20, 2020. Should you need them, several key members of our team will be available by cell phone, text and email until we revisit this decision prior to a planned return to business on April the 6th. Kevin Wauchope 705-717-6306 [email protected] Kerrie McGowan 705-795-5773 [email protected] Crystal McFadden 705-718-5590 [email protected] This was an immensely difficult decision as we considered the wellbeing of your patients together with the welfare of our team and our community. Please know that we will be available for your emergencies should the need arise. Upon receipt of your call we will work through the logistics of this together. Stay healthy, stay positive and we will weather this storm together. Best regards, Ali Khonsari 705-791-8932 [email protected]

A state of the art facility is the first step in developing an innovative workplace where quality products are made. You will notice uncommon touches at IDL like the fact that we work with microscopes on every bench, have incorporated a smartboard into our Education centre and have a variety of digital work stations located throughout the lab. We strive for innovation, and this starts with our advanced facility at Quarry Ridge.
