The 2am think - What do you think of this quote from Vincent? Well, old chap, write again soon I’ll start thinking all sorts of dreadful things if you keep quiet about it. So if there’s something the matter, write: there’s something the matter; if there’s nothing the matter, write: there’s nothing the matter, but don’t keep completely silent about it, because it’s not worth it. Let’s start our week with some art history: New book solves the mystery of Van Gogh's lost harmonium portrait. One of Vincent van Gogh’s most striking portraits depicts Marguerite Gachet, his doctor’s 21-year-old daughter, who is playing the piano. Vincent, delighted with the result, planned to paint another picture of her, this time at the harmonium. It has always been assumed that he never began the second picturebut a new book challenges that. https://www.theartnewspaper....com//van-gogh-harmonium-portra #VanGoghTO #VanGogh #Toronto See more

Route 66 speaks about a journey. It is about traveling, but it is also psychedelic like a dream. It was born in the moment that we were immobilized I’m talking about the time of COVID-19. The idea that staying still not moving gives us the possibility of taking a long journey through the United States. Massimiliano Siccardi x smART Magazine Massimiliano Siccardi is well-known internationally as the creator and designer of the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit. Route 66, Sic...cardi’s new short film, will now be featured in between shows and take audience members on another all-encompassing trip, this time through America's heartland. At the link below, read the feature, by smART Mag correspondent Erin Baldwin, on the upcoming Lighthouse Immersive project. Along with dazzling illustration by artist Jeremy Lewis. Let’s start our week with some art history: "delirium" caused by alcohol withdrawal Vincent van Gogh likely suffered from "delirium" caused by alcohol withdrawal, according to a new study of the artist's psychiatric illnesses. In order to investigate the artist's possible psychiatric disorders, experts interviewed art historians familiar with 902 letters from the artist -- 820 to his brother, Theo -- and studied medical records made by doctors who treated him.... #VanGoghTO #VanGogh #Toronto https://www.ctvnews.ca//van-gogh-suffered-delirium-from-al (the Drinkers. 1890. We are so excited! Inspired by Van Gogh paintings featured in the exhibit, jewelry artist Farheen Ali creates gorgeous pieces now available in our gift shop! Here is more about the collection and Farheen Ali. #Stunning. About the collection: These one-of-a-kind pieces exclusively designed for the Van Gogh Immersive exhibit by the Toronto based artist Farheen Ali, showcase an intriguing mix of natural as well as man made elements. All these stones and metals are woven togethe...r to capture the essence of many of Van Gogh’s paintings. The Starry Night collections uses handmade lampwork glass, electroplated haematite and natural stone to capture the swirling brushstrokes and sparkling dreamlike effect which so prevalent in this painting. The Sunflower collection, on the other hand utilizes porcelain beads which gives these pieces an earthier quality which is a distinctive feature of Van Gogh’s Sunflower series. Sometimes lampwork glass is used in these pieces but unlike the Starry Night collection which is luminous and sparkles, the glass here is more subdued with more matte colours. The Almond blossom collection uses dyed turquoise, other gemstones and floral elements to capture the colours and the softer, more delicate quality of the painting. About the Arist: Farheen Ali is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist whose works span a variety of art forms, such as medical illustration, Japanese Sumi-e brush painting and jewelry art. Farheen has always been intrigued by hidden connections in our everyday world. Whether it is the way the branches of a tree mimic the branching arteries and vessels in the human body, or how natural stone and can be ground to make paint for a painting, it’s these shared interrelationships which drive all her work. Her jewelry too, builds on these connections by creating pieces exclusively for museums which are inspired by manuscripts and artwork in their collections. Many of these pieces are currently being exhibited at the Aga Khan Museum and Gardiner Museum shops. Farheen creates her jewelry works under the name The Spring Moon which was given by her Japanese Sumi-e instructor after a 5 year-long apprenticeship. By using this name for her jewelry works, it is her hope that all who wear her art forms will become a part of her ongoing creative journey, weaving their own unique stories into each piece they wear. #VanGoghTO #VanGogh #Toronto #Jewlery #FarheenAli

Let’s start our week with some art history: Self-Portrait or Portrait of Theo? Van Gogh specialists from the museum Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam studied a small portrait of a figure wearing a straw hat, painted by Vincent van Gogh. Following research published in 2011, the conclusion was drawn that Theo was the subject of the portrait. Based on new insights, this conclusion was recently brought up for discussion. He was a quiet, self-contained youth, spending his free time wandering the countryside to observe nature. At 16 he was apprenticed to The Hague branch of the art dealers Goupil and Co., of which his uncle was a partner.
