Planning on living in Canada? Find out what you need to know about IELTS IELTS General Training is on the list of English Language tests approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Canada (IRCC). It assesses your English language proficiency across four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. In addition, IELTS Academic is widely accepted by colleges, universities and several Designated Learning Institutes (DLI) across Canada.... What IELTS should I take? You can take IELTS General Training and IELTS Academic on paper or on computer. Both options take place in official IELTS centres, located in more than 140 countries around the world. IELTS General Training is suitable for those applying for skilled worker pathways such as Express Entry, the Provincial Nominee Program, and some studies below degree level. IRCC accepts both IELTS on paper and computer. IELTS Academic is suitable for those wanting to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level in an English-speaking environment or a DLI (college, university, polytechnic). You can also take IELTS Academic for professional registration purposes. In fact, IELTS is the only English language test that’s accredited by IRCC under Student Direct Stream (SDS). You can read more about both tests here. Always be sure to visit the relevant government and university and other DLIs websites to confirm which test is required and other entry requirements. IELTS is comprised of four different sections: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. You receive a score for each section, and an overall band score. All of these scores are equally important. Each section of the test is designed to see how you will cope in everyday situations. Whether you choose to take an IELTS Academic test for study reasons, or an IELTS General Training test to allow you to live and work in Canada, the score is attributed in the same way. What’s the best way to prepare? It’s important you prepare for IELTS before you take it. By practicing for your test and getting to know your score for each section, you’ll have confidence in your English language to help you adapt to your new environment. The band score isn’t just a number, the higher the number, the more easily you’ll be able to keep up with everyday life. Practice really does make perfect. IELTS was created to indicate the level of a person’s understanding of the English language however, it’s become much more than that. It brings with it the confidence to hold conversations, helping you transition into your new life abroad. You can and should be proud of your IELTS score. It is a trusted demonstration of your ability to communicate in English. Start your immigration way with us: Tel: 416-732-4283 [email protected]

Spousal Sponsorship: Important advice to avoid a Refusal or Delay The Spousal Sponsorship application process is a daunting and time consuming task. It is very administrative for the most part, but can also be overwhelming and challenging should a case not be straight-forward (previous marriages, arranged marriages, marriages less than 2 years, children from previous marriages, common-law relationships). Typical spousal applications are over 100 pages, after including all g...Continue reading

Canada has topped the U.S. as the most attractive destination for foreign workers, according to a report on global talent. The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and... The Network surveyed a total of 209,000 people in 190 countries. Their report suggests the COVID-19 pandemic played a big role in affecting where foreign workers prefer to work. In general, less people are interested in working abroad due to the pandemic. Another factor that affected work destination rankings is how the country responded to the pandemic. For example, Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore and New Zealand have relatively low case numbers and were all in the top ten. In addition, popular destinations such as Germany and France fell two spots in the rankings, whereas Italy and Spain were not in the top ten list at all. As such, many famous cities such as New York, Barcelona and Rome are now less attractive destinations among foreign workers. Other cities that were hit less by COVID-19 are becoming even more popular, including Tokyo, Singapore, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Canada topped the chart overall. It was highly ranked among respondents with master’s degrees and doctorates, workers with digital experience as well as those under 30. If you remove concerns about political, social and health issues by considering remote workers, the U.S. would rank number one, the survey suggested. About 57 percent of workers are willing to work remotely. These workers are still keen on working remotely for companies in the U.S. and Canada, but are generally more reserved when it comes to relocation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tech and digital workers appear to be keen on working remotely. About 71 percent of tech workers said that they would be willing to work for a company without being physically present in the country. Canadian companies may be able to take advantage of this. Why Canada? Working in Canada comes with many benefits, including a high quality education for your children, taking advantage of Canada’s universal health care system and enjoying Canada’s beautiful scenery. Gaining valuable Canadian work experience will also help you become eligible for Canadian permanent residence. For example, you may be able to gain more points through the Federal Skilled Worker Program under Canada’s Express Entry system. You may also be eligible under one of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). If you have one or more years of work experience in Canada, the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) may be an option for you, provided you meet the program’s minimum language requirement. Working in Canada will not only fulfill the work experience requirement for the CEC, but will also help immerse you in your target language whether that is English or French. Through this immersion, you may be able to improve your language skills and meet the program’s minimum requirement. Immigration Canada provides processing timelines during COVID Canada’s immigration department recently updated its processing timelines to reflect its operational capacity during the pandemic. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) says on its website that people who are trying to access immigration services may experience processing delays, due to COVID-19. The department is prioritizing applications from people who are exempt from travel restrictions.... Here is a breakdown of the updated processing times. Permanent residence IRCC says it is working at full capacity to process permanent residency applications. However, COVID-19 caused a backlog in applications, so you may experience some delays. At the time of writing, IRCC said it was finalizing most of the Canadian Experience Class applications they received between May 24 and May 30, 2020, meaning decision-makers are working on applications that they received about 10 months ago. PR Cards If you are applying for your permanent residency (PR) card, check the online status tool to see the status of your application. This applies to anyone applying for their PR card for the first time, or for a renewal or replacement. IRCC says to make sure you gather your documents and have your identification numbers so that you can log in. If you cannot check the online tool, try IRCC’s webpage. New PR cards are currently being processed in about 125 days, and renewals are taking about 80 days. Students IRCC is currently finalizing most study permit applications received between December 13 and December 19, 2020. This includes applications for study permits, study permit extensions, and work permits for students. Complex applications may take longer to process. Under the current travel restrictions, study permit holders can only come to Canada if they are going to a Designated Learning Institution with an approved COVID-19 readiness plan, or if they had their study permit approved before March 18, 2020. Visitors If you are applying for an Electronic Travel Authorization you can check your status online. If you applied for a Visitor Visa online, you can sign in to your account to check your application status. Click check status and messages under the View my submitted applications or profiles section. If you applied for the visa on paper, you can link your application to an online account where you can see the status of your application. You can also receive messages about your application from IRCC. To see whole article visit our website immigrationgroup.ca Call us: Tel: 416-732-4283 Email us: [email protected]
