Millwork. The beautification of your basement. Your casing and baseboard serves 2 purposes. One to hide imperfection like your drywall being short from the floor and blending your door jambs to the rough opening which your door hangs. Which is intentionally framed large to allow micro adjustment for your doors to close smoothly. All important things but more importantly your trim enhances the look of your basement. I sometime joke with homeowners about we can just hang the d...rywall and you would have a room ...but it’s the millwork that makes the difference. There is just something about properly installed trim that makes the entire basement look better. I have a Realtor friend who has comment to me that the only difference between a Million dollar house and starter home is the finishes. Otherwise largely it’s all the same but the finishes, the millwork takes it to the next level. This is where Jason excels, he knows it’s the little things in installing trim that make all the difference in the feel of your basement. Shimming door casing joints for they are set right. Placing of brads for they hold together but don’t take away from the beauty of the millwork. Coping joints to make seamless connections. There are many other things which he takes great care in doing but when you walk into a finish basement you would never point out and say he did this ...But the look and feel of the basement you know he is passionate about doing it right and giving you a beautiful space. Remember these guys? A fond memory I have of my childhood is playing with play family. My sibling and I would spend days setting up farms with cows bigger than our people, business, homes, furniture, creating family trees, celebrating weddings and whatever else our imagination could think of. It was endless hours of imagination. For days our little creations would lay occupying the entire basement as we would play. But it didn’t matter, my parents still had the rest of the house clean and in order. We were in the basement, having fun, making a mess but there were no toys cluttering where my Mom was trying to work. We didn’t need to be clean up every night for sanity sake because it was in the basement. Our imagination zone was our basement, for in our basement we had the freedom, to let our imaginations run wild.

Haven’t seen this basement in 9 years. Had the privilege to see it again while discussing a different home improvement with the Home Owner. One thing I love about this story is life has had many challenges and changes for them but their basement is still improving lives. Currently their nephew is staying in their basement while he is continuing his education. I am glad that we can play a part in Improving his Life through education by the work we have done.

Drywall stage. I love it, it just seems everything takes shape when the drywall is hung. With Framing there is a suggestion of a room but with the board it is real. Taping transition from Rough to Finish. Through taping you go from close enough to careful precise work. Paying close attention that every void is filled, joint edges feathered out. For from this point forward every detail is visible and important. It was great to drop in and take these pictures of Phil’s work. It’s just the beginning but I love his attention to detail and a clean site. Thanks Phil for your great work.
